Just got this, and when I hovered over the link it goes to some www.hartlbaeur.at So I did some searching and yup, it's a virus.
![]() 2nd Mar 12 Targeted as News Rest assured, it hasn’t! You are most likely reading this because you have received an email from what looks like Itunes that looks something like the following: ![]() This is just the latest in a long line of methods that hackers and phishers are using to lure in unsuspecting users. First we had hundreds of people winning Nigerian lotteries, then we had people being charged astronomical ammounts on their paypal accounts. Now we have this new Itunes scam. I will admit, this is probably the most intelligent method that has been used to date. There would be a huge temptation to click the cancel order button upon receiving this email, trying to avoid this huge charge. The reality is though, by clicking this link, you could be unwittingly installing a virus or other types of malware on your computer. There is one easy way to avoid such emails catching you out though. You need to check in your browser where these links are actually linking to. Just because a link says www.apple.com/store/cancel-this order for example, does not mean that is where the URL is going to take you. Hover over or click on that previous link to see what I mean. |

I use linux. What is a virus? What is facebook? What is paypal? What is DHL account? My itunes/facebook/paypal account is not hacked/over charged/falsely locked because ![]() While emails might contain big pictures, they most certainly also contain little itty bitty pictures as well.....beacons IIRC. |

Yep, people need to learn to hover over a link to see where it goes before clicking on it. Particularly in email, but there are some not so friendly websites out there, too. For at least a year now, I've noticed in gootube video descriptions, where the uploader may have included some URLs- you can hover over the URL, and the browser indicates it's the URL which it appears to be. But alas it's not- you actually have to right-click/copy link location, then paste somewhere to see it- it's a big long gootube tracking URL, which when clicked, goes there for a split second before redirecting to the URL you bargained for. But in the gootube description, they spoof the browser's hover-over function to conceal this fact. I'm sure their nice PR people would tell us, it's because they don't want to confuse surfers by having their big ugly tracking URL appear when they hover-over, how nice of them! here's one example, recent David Duke vid- go there and expand the description below the vid, notice multiple links to http://www.davidduke.com - you'll notice when you hover over them, they appear same as the URL you see. But , right-click/copy link location and paste somewhere... ![]() http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IheJ2Rohz1c |
