It got me. It reminds me of something I heard once- in conversation we only actually hear about 25-33% of the words and infer the rest. Don't know if it's true or not.

That sounds about right. One thing that I like to do is to imagine the words like I'm reading them as someone is talking to me. I find that I remeber details alot better that way.
