Default How long before I will feel "old?".........
I keep reading the news and everytime that someone over 65 is involved in something they right away say "elderly" "old" and so on.......make it sound like we have a foot in the grave.

I am almost 72 and I really don't feel or look my age and very healthy, the only thing is that I cannot do is to run as in the "old" days but still climb trees and the roof of my house, dig holes, fix things and so on.........for some reason people treat me with great respect and I really don't know why, maybe it is because when I talk to someone I look into eyes them instead of just looking at them......I always like to know who I am dealing with.

I would like to think that the reason for me to think this way is that all my people on my fathers side usually live to be over 100..... sorry to say that they were not 100% healthy, after all..........they did die hahahahahahahahaha.

How about you? ....... any "old" fart like me that feels the same way?

Second post of the day............good morning to one and all.

Good Morning Ponce,
I am not quite old yet, I can only speak from seeing my grandpa who is still living at his home and he is 93, at your age the Dr.s told him he need more exercise, so he would make a big to do about getting his tennis shoes on, go out and stand at the gate, ( I think so we all would watch through the window ,) and then he would run/jog to the 2nd telephone pole across the street down a dirt rd. and back, then a big to do about taking the shoes off!

Oh how I love him !!

I'm sure everyone would agree that the more active you keep your mind and body, the longer it will be before you "feel old". Some people seem to be more willing to give in to feeling old. They use it as an excuse to avoid doing stuff, or trying new things, or learning new things, or keeping up with current trends. There should be no such thing as "acting your age".

I think a big challenge to getting older is maintaining a sense of relevance, because society is structured to accommodate youth and people in their prime, and tends to judge by appearance, so it's easy for an older person to feel out-of-place and irrelevant. That's so sad.

Ponce, it's interesting that you spend a lot of time by yourself, yet are able to remaining interactive when you are amongst strangers. I love to see interaction between strangers because it's like a sharing of humanity.

Also, I think it helps to talk to your pets...

Ponce...
You will NEVER feel old, because the aging process begins when the learning process ends.

You guys got it........Sparky? my cat is the one who talks to me all the time.....when I got her she was 2 years so that I think that the previous owner was the one that used to talk to her all the time........

About my "fat" dog.....I wrote about this some time ago and now I know why.......he found a hole in the fence and he was sneaking out at night time, he would find a racoon, kill it, bring it back behind the fence........and..........hide them under the house to eat as a "snack" when ever he felt like it........found the remains of two of them under the house.
