Default Man's quest for mistletoe lands him in jail

ATLANTA (WGCL/CNN) – A Georgia man's quest for mistletoe landed him in jail when he decided to open fire on private property.

"I have done that for years and years, but never in the city limits," said Bill Robinson.

Robinson was at Atlanta's North DeKalb Mall's parking lot when he decided to use his shotgun in an attempt to get a batch of mistletoe.

"Every year I go somewhere to get mistletoe to decorate the house and get some for my friends that can't get mistletoe," Robinson said.

The mistletoe, which is more than a way to lure someone into a kiss, is also a parasite that grows in trees and shrubs. Robinson says he would have gone to his neighbor's house for mistletoe, but he was not home at the time.

"I didn't want to go shooting in his yard if he wasn't home," Robinson said.

Instead of shooting up his neighbor's property, he went to the mall's parking lot where someone saw him take the shot and attempted to honk their horn to stop him.

"I waved at him," Robinson said.

With a wave, Robinson's hunt for mistletoe was over.

"They had no idea what I was up to," Robinson said. "I went ahead, got the mistletoe up, gathered it and left. Next thing I know I am surrounded."

DeKalb police arrested Robinson and booked him into the DeKalb County Jail. He is charged with reckless conduct and firing a gun on private property.

"I will get the mistletoe next year, but it will be somewhere else," Robinson said. "It'll be way out in the country."

Or better yet, he should lose the mistletoe addiction. lol
I nade one of these a couple years back, about 30 foot long. Much more of a workout than firing a shotgun

Did he get to keep the mistletoes that he already had or did they confiscated it?......expect him to go out shooting today if they did.

Jail is the last place you would want to hang mistletoe.

I wonder what the cultural significance of mistletoe is. It's poisonous, you cannot eat it, correct? And it is a parasite that drains trees. Why is it revered?

At least when I almost went to jail for it I only had a .22, a shotgun though? seems a bit overkill for the prey.

Looking for root of the myths...

Medicinal properties and applications:
One of the best known properties of mistletoe is the reduction of blood pressure. It is also often taken in combination with hawthorn for the purpose of strengthening the heart, especially in the case of elderly people. There are also claims that the mistletoe has the potential to treat certain cancer types, but these claims still wait for more concrete scientific evidence.

Active compounds: Viscotoxins, choline, acetylcholine, flavonoids, histamine and mucilage. Killjoys:

American mistletoe is UNSAFE. Do not use it. All American mistletoe plant parts are considered poisonous. American mistletoe can cause nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, decreased heart rate, hallucinations, and heart problems. One of the chemicals in American mistletoe seems to be similar to poisons in cobra venom. This chemical can cause “cardiac arrest,” a condition in which the heart suddenly stops beating.
