my suggestion would be to put in a test section, so that a human being has to answer 20 questions about Zionism, the Constitution, US History, etc. educational like. basically forcing people who want to register to jump through a few hurdles to prove that they're human (to defeat robo-registration), and to slow down the flood of spam registrations.

We are the sum of our parts, and the same 35 or 40 of us that hang out and actually post are probably due for juicing up our awareness and perspective with some new blood. It's asking a lot of the mods, but I'd vote for a registration window of some modest period. There's got to more like us out there. Knowledge is power.

I didn't know registration was shut down. I figured there was just no interest in new people. Now it makes sense... and it is a bit stale here.

GIM1 had the same problem with spammers. The solution was that there was a 3 day window of registration every month. I recommend that this Monday a sticky is made, that's obvious, that says that registration will be open for 3 days from x to y dates.

I'm in the mood for some troll bashing which results in my banning. I've got shit to do.

as i recall, the problem wasn't limited to spammers...i think the decision to shut down registration was made when we had virus problems, if i recall correctly, the virus problem was after the spamfest...

I think it's important for lurkers to be able to ask questions when they come to a crux in their research.

I also know that if I was the owner of the board, I would likely forget to open registration and close it every month. I might remember the first few months, but after that I know it would slip my mind.

I closed registration when we got hacked. Every day I get 30-50 registrations, and I end up letting maybe 1 member through (they are usually from .ru, .pl, .cn, or worst from Croatia ) . Even then 90% of the time the 1 member is a spammer, and I or one of our mods ends up deleting the account. I want to wait a while until we get removed from whatever list we are on, then I may try opening up again. If you know someone that wants to be a member, PM me with their desired username, email address, and a temporary password, and I will set-up an account.

What I wonder is, if there were unregistered lurkers reading, and they wanted to send you a message, can they do that without having a GSus account?

If so, you should post a sticky thread at the very top of the GD board, with a title like "ATTENTION: Readers who would like membership" or something.
