Actor Morgan Freeman has a solution to the problem of racism – "Stop talking about it!"
In a CBS News' 60 Minutes profile of the Oscar-winning actor scheduled to air tonight, Freeman tells Mike Wallace labels like "white" and "black" are an obstacle to defeating racism.
"I am going to stop calling you a white man and I'm going to ask you to stop calling me a black man," he says. "I know you as Mike Wallace. You know me as Morgan Freeman. You wouldn't say, 'Well, I know this white guy named Mike Wallace.' You know what I'm saying?"



The actor also criticizes Black History Month, saying setting aside a special month actually segregates black history from American history. Calling the idea "ridiculous," Freeman notes there's no "white history month."
"You're going to relegate my history to a month?" Freeman asks Wallace. "I don't want a black history month. Black history is American history," he says.
Freeman, who won his first Oscar for his role in "Million Dollar Baby" last year, has starred in numerous films, including "The Shawshank Redemption," "Unforgiven," "Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves," "The Bonfire of the Vanities," "Glory" and "Driving Miss Daisy."

I agree with him totally.

He also said in the same interview (which I watched) that he despises the confederate flag, as it is symbol of racial hatred and cultural division. I agree with that also.

Good thread, and I agree with him too.

It's quite proper that he should criticise patronising liberal schemes such as "Black America Month" (the wittiest - and possibly most misunderstood - online example of this message I've seen is Black People Love Us. There are, however, quite a few people who are determined to point out that, for example, Mr Wallace is a white man and Mr Freeman is a black man, and that black people and white people should have separate existences. Some of these people may be black, but a lot of them are definitely white. Google "Stormfront" to find a lot of these white people (if you know of a similar black supremacy site/oragnisation, then tell us about it by all means. I don't). Mr Freeman is not addressing them, and even if he were, they wouldn't listen - because he's black.

Morgan Freeman just put himself on the demorat hit list. He ain't no black guy to them any more cause he's black on the outside & white on the inside..

Demorats like to treat blacks like we free thinkers would treat our pet monkeys. You know them Monkeys are to stupid to take care of themselves. so we give them a few goodies if they behave & act the way they should...

I think the blacks should listen more to their own people like Freeman and Cosby they might learn something. Although I do disagree about the confederate flag and I will continue to fly it.

Incidentally, I understand that Wallace replied: "I'm a Jew"...
