I don’t know if I never noticed before, or if it’s just because of what I’m going through I have a heightened awareness to it, but I’ve noticed that cheating seems to have become so common place that it’s become an acceptable basis or background for entertainment.

In the last week I’ve seen no less then 8 movies, and dozens of television shows, of every genre, comedy, horror, drama, etc. that had infidelity as a key element to the story. Even movies that are supposed to be Romantic have infidelity in them. Some of these are movies I’ve seen in the past, but never really paid attention to that aspect, others are ones that I had never seen before.

Has the world become so complacent and accepting of infidelity that we think it makes for good entertainment? In the movies I saw, they never really show the pain or anguish of the person that was cheated on. Either they just glossed over it, or they never showed the person being cheated on finding out. In one case, they used it as a comedic moment with the throwing of dishes and yelling, very slap stick.

I’m just curious if any of you have noticed this as well or if it’s just my heightened sense of awareness.

It's your heightened senses. The soap opera business has been built on cheating, paternity dilemmas and amnesia for years. As have quiet a few movies. Even mega hit Titanic was about a young woman cheating on her fiance.

It's common for us to relate to movies, songs, shows, etc that have to do with cheating when we are thrown in the middle of it. I remember after finding out my H was unfaithful, it seemed like every song on the radio was about cheating.

Movies especially seem to show infidelity as something that should be chosen for one's true happiness. Serendipity, one of my favorite movies, is based on two people trying to find each other while planning weddings to other people. "An Affair to Remember", "Same time next year", old movies, new movies, all the same. "Desperate Housewives" shows neighbors sleeping with each other's spouses, boyfriends, you name it. Touchy for me in my current situation.

Yet we continue to be entertained, because cheating is so rampant. It's common-place in our society. It's sickening.

I'll tell you what I've been seeing a lot of lately. Web sites dedicated to cheaters. Just go online, hook up, and we'll be discreet.

It makes me want to puke.

it's definitely your heightened senses. i've noticed it too. all of a sudden movies seem to have a 'cheating theme'. songs that i used to sing to come on the radio and suddenly i have to change stations because he's singing about "me and mrs jones...got a thing going on...." and the lyrics suddenly hit me very hard and everytime that song comes on the radio i just have to put on a CD.
it sucks!
