Hey friends. Im over here in Tokyo and have already visited a couple of great record stores. The only thing I'm slightly confused about is although I have seen some great stuff, its like $25.00 and I don't want to buy something that I can get at home for way way less. Does anyone have any suggestions about stuff you know you can't get in the U.S. or Canada?

It's tricky.... as many available and semi-available things are issued in Japan but if you look you can get them here. You have to look hard........a lot of sessions are recorded in NYC for Japanese issue only.....eg. The Manhattan Jazz Quintet with Lew Soloff etc. a great band. Labels like Denon and Paddlewheel and Toshiba(sometimes) are good bets for finding Japanese only stuff. Try and read the labels carefully. Or on the other hand you could just drink a lot of cheap saki and buy anything that appeals to you.....and if you find you already have it you could flog it at the Cellar. Have a ball!

I haven't seen a copy in many years but issues of the Japanese magazine Swing Journal were jam-packed with ads and reviews of albums available over there. The magazine's entirely in Japanese but you can see what albums are out, plus titles and personnel were in English, as I recall. It might be worth checking out.
