I never got to see Mary Lou Williams unfortunately (I've definitely been a fan for many years) but I know some of the VJS history of bringing her in. In fact, I have before me a dry-mounted poster (I inherited it from somewhere) that reads:
The Vancouver Jazz Society presents Mary Lou Williams piano, Larry Gales bass [I notice your photo has Wyatt Ruther on bass]; May 11 to 14 [1977] 9 PM $5 Children's concert Sat May 14 at 2 pm Children under 12 $2 Adults $3 2613 w. 4th Avenue at Trafalgar Tickets: Black Swan Records Ernie's Hot Wax [!] So how was the children's matinee? There's one I'd definitely take my kids to! BTW, since we're discussing some 70s history, about the A-Trane this Friday, since it's the 30th anniversary of the station (actually on Friday!), we're doing an all-vinyl show with LPs from 1975! [that constrains the requests a little but we'll still take 'em, drop me a line] ... N |
