Hey, Yuri
How's the jazz scene in Pesaro?

Can I come stay at your place for a few months?

Thanks Morgan! I had a good time and will come down again for sure. You guys sounded great, I dig the bass-drums section with horn. Sometimes chords get in the way (no offense to all you compers.)

PS did you ever get in touch with our mutual drummer friend Vinny Speroza? Let me know.

I've heard Dado on many occasions, both on recordings and live. He swings hard. Nice guy too. I haven't seen him in manys years however. I think he lives in Italy but I'm not sure. Where did you see him RJB? By the way, I liked the article on Jazz musicians getting no respect by Dr. Schlesinger. Very true!

no problem, you're welcome!

well, here in pesaro the jazz scene goes on really slow... in fact, with a classical music school (conservatorio ) and rossini opera festival (pesaro is the city where gioacchino rossini was born) jazz has been forgotten for years... but now, with the activation of a jazz course in the conservatorio , with a new "pesaro jazz club" and with the help of the (here in italy) famous "fano jazz festival" (fano is a little city not too far from pesaro) we've lived a rebirth of this great musical style

i haven't seen so much jazz forums in the web: this is the only one i found which uses vbulletin and with a good number of users in it... can anyone explain me why? even in italy we have some great jazz sites, but musicians seems not to be really interested in forums and web communities...

Ryan, Vinnie is notoriously difficult to nail down, so, no, I haven't talked to him in a while. I hear from other mutual friends that he is doing really well, which doesn't surprise me, considering what a great guy and musician he is.

Yeah, the horn/bass/drums setup is a favorite of mine. It seems to me (feel free to correct, anyone that plays a real instrument) that it frees up the harmony to be a more subjective and contrapuntal arrangement, rather than an objective one. That's exciting to me, because when you have guys who can listen like Alvin and Sean do, and they can go somewhere with it that I wasn't expecting (as they often do) that can fuel the fire that I'm trying to build under their asses. There's something special about playing all acoustically too.... I'm not going to try to romanticize this too much, as I know opinions on sound/swing/sound systems vary, and everyone has their thing and that's great... but to me, listening to Cronin play without an amp... I get a sense of the "true" dynamics of the instruments we're playing, and that allows for more swing to happen... because we're not dealing with any extra sound... just the attack from his fingers. I LOVE that sound... Thanks again man, you're welcome anytime.
