Just want to be the first to congratulate my good friend Mike Zachernuk on winning the Galaxie Rising Star Award for this year. This was no surprise for me, as I've known Mike going on four years now, and I know few people who are as dedicated to music as he is. He embodies the work ethic that enables truly great music to happen, and he's always touched me with his playing, musicianship and and friendship. He runs the most cohesive and original jazz group for his generation in Vancouver hands down. Having great musicians like Dave Sikula, Nino DiPasquale and Sean Cronin to give their own unique thing to his beautiful tunes doesn't hurt either. Way to go boys.
