I assume you mean mainstream sedan/hatchback cars and not 1)premium &/or 2)MPV's so here it goes although it's a tough one, it all depends on which car maker and which region so this is a general/average score for me

1. How do you think car manufacturers, in general, rate at solving the following issues with current passenger car interiors? (Please rate out of 10):
• Comfort - 8
• Versatility (How the interior adapts to people, luggage, weather conditions, etc). - 9
• Clean ability (How easy is it to maintain clean? - 6
• Space Efficiency (How practical & Useable the space available is) - 9
• Ergonomics (How user friendly the interior is laid out) - 7
• Insulation (Keeping the interior isolated from noise and temperature extremes) - 5
• Feel (Lighting, Appeal of materials – Is it a place you want to be in?) - 8

2. Do you think car interiors are well suited to people in your country's conditions? Please state country/area.

Not always. I live in Cyprus where it gets extremely hot and i have noticed that some of the cars , especially from Germany, seem to fit colder weather countries more. Like for example my dad's Fiesta (bought new in 2007) had minor problems cause by heat with the glue around some of the plastics around the windows being visible and even the surface of the steering wheel peeling off, all due to hot weather. Some heat problems also occurred on our old 3-Series (94) with the cloth on the roof lowering down on our heads all the time etc.
Plus, my mate's Toyota Prius feels extremely HOT inside at all times, even during mild days which again makes me think the car wasn't made with hot weather countries in mind...?

3. Have you purchased aftermarket products for your car interior to protect it from weather conditions or Elements? (ie, seat covers, dash mats, etc)

No

4. In what ways would you change car interiors to make them a more appealing place to be in?

Offering more customizations in terms of seat fabrics, colors, styles etc. Have lot's of cupholders and storage compartments even in non-MPV cars. I would like it if car makers paid more attention to the interior colors and plastics as well, not only in terms of color or for the sake of making an impression but in order to avoid excessive collection of dust & to brighten the ambience. Touch screens with media interfaces should also be offered as a low cost or no cost option on all but the most conservative or low rent cars cause let's face it, we all have mobile phones, MP3 players etc and everything is going Touch lately so why not all cars?
Also VERY important ; i hate cheap loth interios! What's the use? Once you spill some juice or soda on it..well it's messed up! My dad's Ford has a big stain on his seat caused by some minor dripping from my OJ! We need new types of fabrics which wash off easily or partial, industrial, leather on all cars IMO

5. Do you maintain your car interior clean? How?

I confess i don't spend as much time cleaning my car. Usually i take it to a car wash whenever it gets really dirty while i keep the inside reasonably clean at all times. Nothing else though

6. How easy is it to maintain a car interior clean?

I wouldn't say it is difficult other than dust-loving plastics and liguid stains

7. How often do you take your car to beaches, Natural parks, Nature reserves, Camping trips, outdoor sports trips or any other place where the interior is bound to get muddy, wet, sandy or dusty?

Quite often during the Summer period

8. Does keeping your car interior clean have any influence in the places you drive to or the activities you do before driving? (ie, surfing, swimming, outdoor sports, etc)

Not really, not anymore
9. Does heat from parking your car in the sun affect where you go to or where you park your vehicle?

Well it does bother me and annoy me but i don't let it put me off. Sometimes parking places are hard to find and as long as i park it close to my destination it's ok

10. Please re-arrange the following list of characteristics in order of importance to you. Start with the most important and leave the least important last.

• Feel
• Ergonomics
• Space Efficiency
• Comfort
• Clean Ability
• Versatility
• Insulation

EDIT: sorry i just noticed that i had Insulation first in the last question but it should have been last! Fixed it now

1. How do you think car manufacturers, in general, rate at solving the following issues with current passenger car interiors? (Please rate out of 10):

Comfort - 6
I'd mark higher if I was average height, how many cars are really comfortable for someone over 6ft (I'm 6'6" and couldn't get comfortable in most superminis, and even then the car would be a 3 seater because the rear seat behind me would be useless)

Versatility (How the interior adapts to people, luggage, weather conditions, etc). 7
Depends on the car (MPVs are obviously better at this) but generally I'd say most cars cope pretty well.

Clean ability (How easy is it to maintain clean? 8
With the exception of carpets most cars are pretty easy plastic surfaces.

Space Efficiency (How practical & Useable the space available is) 4
Crap. This is the 21st century, cars don't need to have big space wasting armchair seats to be comfortable, and packaging isn't good. Imagine how much space there would be in a regular car if it was was packaged like a Toyota IQ, and with thin seats!

Ergonomics (How user friendly the interior is laid out) 6
Unless its a luxury car with a million buttons or an iDrive/MMI type wheel, its pretty good with things designed to be in line of sight and reachable.

Insulation (Keeping the interior isolated from noise and temperature extremes) 7
Both good. With a decent heater/air con the heat insulation is less of an issue, but noise insulation on modern cars is great.

Feel (Lighting, Appeal of materials – Is it a place you want to be in?) 2
Doubly crap. Leather grain texture plastic, fake plastic wood (and some real wood) and carbon fibre trim should be banned. Oh and there should be more choice of colour than black, grey, beige or dark blue interiors. Unless your in a rolls with a starlight roof or whatever its called, interior lighting isn't great. The most interesting thing I can think of is a Scion with coloured highlights. My smart has a clear roof, it helps the natural light in the car by loads, how hard can it be () to put a polycarbonate roof panel into a car?

2. Do you think car interiors are well suited to people in your country's conditions? Please state country/area.
UK - On the whole yes, can't think of anything that doesn't really suit this country.

3. Have you purchased aftermarket products for your car interior to protect it from weather conditions or Elements? (ie, seat covers, dash mats, etc)
Better car mats and a rubber grip mat for the dashboard/console.

4. In what ways would you change car interiors to make them a more appealing place to be in?
I pretty much said my piece in the Feel section above.

5. Do you maintain your car interior clean? How?
Vacuum cleaner, and plastic surface wipes.

6. How easy is it to maintain a car interior clean?
Basically clean is easy, more than that is was valet services are for. They know what theyre doing .

7. How often do you take your car to beaches, Natural parks, Nature reserves, Camping trips, outdoor sports trips or any other place where the interior is bound to get muddy, wet, sandy or dusty?
I try to avoid it, but I'm not an active outdoorsy person.

8. Does keeping your car interior clean have any influence in the places you drive to or the activities you do before driving? (ie, surfing, swimming, outdoor sports, etc)
See above.

9. Does heat from parking your car in the sun affect where you go to or where you park your vehicle?
UK - What sun? . I do carry a windscreen sunshade for those rare times.

10. Please re-arrange the following list of characteristics in order of importance to you. Start with the most important and leave the least important last.

• Comfort
• Feel
• Ergonomics
• Space Efficiency
• Versatility
• Clean Ability
• Insulation

2. Do you think car interiors are well suited to people in your country's conditions? Please state country/area.
NA/California/Bakersfield Our worst "condition" here is dense fog so I see nothing inherently wrong with the interiors of the cars I've seen.

3. Have you purchased aftermarket products for your car interior to protect it from weather conditions or Elements? (ie, seat covers, dash mats, etc)

Yes we have baking sun in the summer and typically go 30 days at a time over 100 degrees

4. In what ways would you change car interiors to make them a more appealing place to be in?

Get rid on talking voices and NAV screens. Keep everything sublimely simple. No idrive nonsense.

5. Do you maintain your car interior clean? How?

I rely on the car wash people to give it the once over when I go through

6. How easy is it to maintain a car interior clean?

It's not therefore the car wash people

7. How often do you take your car to beaches, Natural parks, Nature reserves, Camping trips, outdoor sports trips or any other place where the interior is bound to get muddy, wet, sandy or dusty?

once a year. We don't go muddy places. The interiors of our cars are ALWAYS dusty because it's Bakersfield after all (lots of dust in the wind).

8. Does keeping your car interior clean have any influence in the places you drive to or the activities you do before driving? (ie, surfing, swimming, outdoor sports, etc)

NO

9. Does heat from parking your car in the sun affect where you go to or where you park your vehicle?

• Feel (Lighting, Appeal of materials – Is it a place you want to be in?) 9

2. Do you think car interiors are well suited to people in your country's conditions? Please state country/area.

Worcester, UK. The only freak conditions we get here are floods occasionally, but when the floods come they come properly, and only SUVs escape water ingress. But manufacturers can't stop mother nature, only thing that could help would be wipe clean interiors with no carpet, but then that would be uncomfortable for most people.

3. Have you purchased aftermarket products for your car interior to protect it from weather conditions or Elements? (ie, seat covers, dash mats, etc)

Just floor mats, but they came with the car when I bought it 2nd hand. I clean the car inside and out every 2 weeks .

4. In what ways would you change car interiors to make them a more appealing place to be in?

Depends on what sort of car it was. At the moment I love my MG interior, it has body hugging part leather seats, a good looking dashboard and a perfect size steering wheel that adjusts for rake. It hasn't got a lot of equipment, but that's ok. If I was looking for something that was less of a focused drivers car, i'd want every technology available, and i'd want dash panels that were interchangable so I could change the colour scheme when I got bored of it. Also in the future i'd expect a gauge/dial clusters that could be customised.. i.e you choose where the rev counter, speedo e.t.c is positioned, and again, what colour scheme you have.

5. Do you maintain your car interior clean? How?

I vac the interior every 2 weeks, and use 'Amour-all' dash wipes to get rid of dust on the dash, and autoglym glass polish on the glass every month.

6. How easy is it to maintain a car interior clean?

For familys with small children i'd imagine it would be a pain getting chocolate out of the current fabrics used on seats, but for me - a single 28yr old - it's the easisest thing in the world as long as you clean it regulary. I can't believe how dusty a dash can get though, it's quite astonishing!

7. How often do you take your car to beaches, Natural parks, Nature reserves, Camping trips, outdoor sports trips or any other place where the interior is bound to get muddy, wet, sandy or dusty?

Not often at all! Took my Saab to Devon where it got sand all in the interior, but the MG has never been anywhere like that yet.

8. Does keeping your car interior clean have any influence in the places you drive to or the activities you do before driving? (ie, surfing, swimming, outdoor sports, etc)

Yes lol, I avoid country lanes that are likely to be muddy or have horse doo doo all over them.

9. Does heat from parking your car in the sun affect where you go to or where you park your vehicle?

We don't get enough sun in Worcester for it to alter where I park my car lol! However I always park at the furthest point in the car park to avoid people parking next to me.. people in the UK don't really care about damaging other peoples property and will open their doors fully to exit the car, and quite oftenn their door will clip the car parked next to them.

This survey relates to car interiors.

1. How do you think car manufacturers, in general, rate at solving the following issues with current passenger car interiors? (Please rate out of 10):
• Comfort 9
• Versatility (How the interior adapts to people, luggage, weather conditions, etc). 8
• Clean ability (How easy is it to maintain clean? 5
• Space Efficiency (How practical & Useable the space available is) 8
• Ergonomics (How user friendly the interior is laid out) 9
• Insulation (Keeping the interior isolated from noise and temperature extremes) 9
• Feel (Lighting, Appeal of materials – Is it a place you want to be in?) 9

2. Do you think car interiors are well suited to people in your country's conditions? Please state country/area.

Well as Cosworthkid said, some cars are not suitable for desert-like conditions like in Cyprus . On my old benz, the glue holding the door leather melted from the heat and i have to stick it back every now and then. Another problem with mostly older cars is that especially in the summer, the interior gets so hot when its parked under the sun u cant get in. Modern cars(at least Mercedes) have a really powerful A/C system that combined with open windows, turn the sauna into a car again in 30 seconds.

3. Have you purchased aftermarket products for your car interior to protect it from weather conditions or Elements? (ie, seat covers, dash mats, etc)

I never liked covers of any kind. I never understood the point of covering your leather seats for example(to protect them). Why did i buy a car with leather seats if im not gonna see them?

4. In what ways would you change car interiors to make them a more appealing place to be in?

I cant really say because each interior is different and every interior has it's drawbacks....Making them more ergonomic i would say is the most important....

5. Do you maintain your car interior clean? How?

Yes im kind of obsessed with it. Vacuum cleaning, special products for plastics, leather, wood etc....

6. How easy is it to maintain a car interior clean?

Well no food or drink is allowed in my car(except water) so i only have to clean dust

7. How often do you take your car to beaches, Natural parks, Nature reserves, Camping trips, outdoor sports trips or any other place where the interior is bound to get muddy, wet, sandy or dusty?

Well...during the whole summer period

8. Does keeping your car interior clean have any influence in the places you drive to or the activities you do before driving? (ie, surfing, swimming, outdoor sports, etc)

No but afterward i clean it...

9. Does heat from parking your car in the sun affect where you go to or where you park your vehicle?

No

10. Please re-arrange the following list of characteristics in order of importance to you. Start with the most important and leave the least important last.

• Comfort

Oh, well, as a dash stroker, of course I have to participate in the survey!

1. How do you think car manufacturers, in general, rate at solving the following issues with current passenger car interiors? (Please rate out of 10):
• Comfort: 8
• Versatility: 7
• Clean ability: 6
• Space Efficiency: 6
• Ergonomics: 8
• Insulation: 7
• Feel: 7

2. Do you think car interiors are well suited to people in your country's conditions? Please state country/area.
California: Yes

3. Have you purchased aftermarket products for your car interior to protect it from weather conditions or Elements? (ie, seat covers, dash mats, etc)
No

4. In what ways would you change car interiors to make them a more appealing place to be in?
Lighter colors; I'm not fond of the black trend, no matter how "sporty" it looks.

5. Do you maintain your car interior clean? How?
I haven't had too many dirtiness problems yet.

6. How easy is it to maintain a car interior clean?
It depends; My car is moderate in that regard

7. How often do you take your car to beaches, Natural parks, Nature reserves, Camping trips, outdoor sports trips or any other place where the interior is bound to get muddy, wet, sandy or dusty?
Haven't done so yet, but I'd probably take it to hiking trips and beach trips.

8. Does keeping your car interior clean have any influence in the places you drive to or the activities you do before driving? (ie, surfing, swimming, outdoor sports, etc)
Somewhat? I don't really want to get my car's interior dirty.

9. Does heat from parking your car in the sun affect where you go to or where you park your vehicle?
Yes. I reiterate my complaint about the whole "sporty black" trend.

10. Please re-arrange the following list of characteristics in order of importance to you. Start with the most important and leave the least important last.

• Comfort
• Versatility
• Space Efficiency
• Feel
• Ergonomics
• Clean Ability
• Insulation

1. How do you think car manufacturers, in general, rate at solving the following issues with current passenger car interiors? (Please rate out of 10):
• Comfort: 8
• Versatility: 6
• Clean ability: 5
• Space Efficiency: 6
• Ergonomics: 8
• Insulation: 7
• Feel: 7

2. Do you think car interiors are well suited to people in your country's conditions? Please state country/area.
USA: Yeah, more or less. The only real things needed to suit us are big cupholders and decent seats. We've got that.

3. Have you purchased aftermarket products for your car interior to protect it from weather conditions or Elements? (ie, seat covers, dash mats, etc)
Nope

4. In what ways would you change car interiors to make them a more appealing place to be in?
Squeaks and rattles get on my nerves, so I'd find a way to reduce those (fewer parts?). I also read swizzle's response and agree simpler is always better. I don't want to have to read/skim, or in any way look at a 500-page manual to learn how to operate the radio or adjust the mirrors; I just want to get in and drive.

5. Do you maintain your car interior clean? How?
Usually I just vacuum the carpet and seats every few weeks. Speaking of which I need to go do that...

6. How easy is it to maintain a car interior clean?
My car is difficult to keep clean since it's all black inside; dust shows easily sadly, but I ignore it.

7. How often do you take your car to beaches, Natural parks, Nature reserves, Camping trips, outdoor sports trips or any other place where the interior is bound to get muddy, wet, sandy or dusty?
Not often, though I did do some semi off-roading a week ago! (well it was a grass path)

8. Does keeping your car interior clean have any influence in the places you drive to or the activities you do before driving? (ie, surfing, swimming, outdoor sports, etc)
Not really; I don't surf/swim or anything like that though if I did I would probably be extra careful to keep the car clean.

9. Does heat from parking your car in the sun affect where you go to or where you park your vehicle?
I do try to park under trees etc, my car is all black inside as I've mentioned so it heats up quickly.

10. Please re-arrange the following list of characteristics in order of importance to you. Start with the most important and leave the least important last.

Comfort/insulation (tie since they go together IMO)
Feel
Ergonomics
Versatility
Space efficiency (my Mazda3 isn't so great in this aspect so I keep this low on my list; I do appreciate small yet roomy cars alot though)
Clean ability

1. How do you think car manufacturers, in general, rate at solving the following issues with current passenger car interiors? (Please rate out of 10):

• Comfort - 8
• Versatility (How the interior adapts to people, luggage, weather conditions, etc) - 6
• Clean ability (How easy is it to maintain clean? - 5
• Space Efficiency (How practical & Useable the space available is) - 6
• Ergonomics (How user friendly the interior is laid out) - 7
• Insulation (Keeping the interior isolated from noise and temperature extremes) - 7
• Feel (Lighting, Appeal of materials – Is it a place you want to be in?) - 6

2. Do you think car interiors are well suited to people in your country's conditions? Please state country/area.

No. Australia, as you will know, has fine crappy dust. This just sifts its way into the car, even off-road vehicles (Toyota Prado) have poor seals that do not prevent a lot of dust. In saying that, many cars do have great seals. Interios as a whole need to be more practicile, the Commodore and Aurion/Camry IIRC do not have a 60/40 folding back seat?

3. Have you purchased aftermarket products for your car interior to protect it from weather conditions or Elements? (ie, seat covers, dash mats, etc)

No. Takes away the look of the car. I do however use aftermarket products to keep the interior looking as good as possible for as long as possible (Armall). I do use floor mats and boot scruff plates, cargo nets in the back for shopping etc.

4. In what ways would you change car interiors to make them a more appealing place to be in?

Ergernomics. Some cars are shocking, it's a danger to drive a car with buttons all over the place that you have to look for. We need more practicle interiors, we don't need a revolution, we just need our cars to be more like cars such as the Honda Jazz/Fit. It's genious.

5. Do you maintain your car interior clean? How?

Once again, car cleaning products. Plastic protectors for dash and doors, leather protecter for gear lever and steering wheel, cloth cleaner for seating and door infils, carpet cleaner for carpet, air freshener etc.

6. How easy is it to maintain a car interior clean?

Very easy. It only takes me 1/2 an hour a week to keep my car looking tops. Some cars are hard to clean though.

7. How often do you take your car to beaches, Natural parks, Nature reserves, Camping trips, outdoor sports trips or any other place where the interior is bound to get muddy, wet, sandy or dusty?

Often. The car is vacummed/cleaned as soon as we come back from places like this.

8. Does keeping your car interior clean have any influence in the places you drive to or the activities you do before driving? (ie, surfing, swimming, outdoor sports, etc)

No. My car interior is always spotless, no rubbish or crap lying around. I am carefull not to put any extra dirt inside after a clean, but if I go to the beach I do not hesitate.

9. Does heat from parking your car in the sun affect where you go to or where you park your vehicle?

No. What's the point of a car if you can't drive it, or park it, whever you like (providing it suits the car, ie my Fiesta does NOT go offroad into mud puddles, it's not 4WD).

10. Please re-arrange the following list of characteristics in order of importance to you. Start with the most important and leave the least important last.

• Comfort - 2 (was not a priority with my current Fiesta, is my top priority now)
• Versatility -3
