It would be damn cool to have the ability to run ridiculously graphics-intensive games on, say, my run-of-the-mill laptop. I'd still play games on PC if I didn't have to worry about my computer being completely outmoded in a matter of months.

Granted, we have no clue how much they would charge for the service. $400 for PC upgrades would be a bargain if they decided to charge 50+ bucks/month for a subscription.

If they price it correctly, this will be a hit. If it is successful, than it would destroy console sales. Just signed up for BETA testing.

I'm sceptical. I think bandwidh will be a major issue here. You'd have to have very fast broadband to make this work flawlessly.

@Kramer: You don't have to upgrade your PC every 8 to 9 months, no way. Or only perhaps if you want to play FPS in very high resolutions with maxed out settings. I've upgraded it in August for about £250 (that's what, roughly $370?), which included a new Phenom processor, graphics card and RAM. It runs every new game without hiccups with the highest settings at relatively high resolutions and will continue to do so until my ATI 3870 Radeon ages. Once you invest in a good overall package (I'm talking quad-core here and at least 2GB of highly clocked DDR2 RAM) it will last you for a very long time.

Indeed, or they might even rush to get a piece of the action a.s.a.p. given how sales of the Playstation 3 took a major dive and have been weak since almost it's release while Microsoft is ahead mainly because of it's LIVE service and slashed prices (yet they said they never actually made profit from either the X-Box or X-Box 360 so far). I'm thinking if OnLive proves it can work, console manufacturers will sooner or laterer listen to the gaming community's plea for such a revolutionary shift and jump on board, just how music studios are now supporting iTunes etc. In the end they all make a lot more money from software sales than hardware i reckon.

They might decide to imitate/copy their idea but that might prove to be a lengthy procedure especially if OnLine have patented their services, being the first of their kind and all

Sounds fantastic. If it works, it could take the gaming world by storm.

Wow, this is some seriously amazing sh!t ! All we would need are badass internet connections and we'll be set!
But i wonder, if this does become a huge success then there could be as many as a million players online at any given time. It would mean that these guys would have to up the capacity of their servers thousand fold.

AND of course, all the game makers would have to tie in with these guys so that we have to first buy the game like earlier (but this time without any physical transaction of the game) and then pay online or at a store.

This would also mean a lot more customers for high end connections and a lot less customers for gaming tech/graphic cards etc..

I hope some company like Nvidia sponsors these guys and who knows, maybe even buy the whole concept!

I don't think it'll have that broad of an appeal. I'll say it'll be up there with Stream.

When I pay for a game, I like having tangable evidence that I've paid for something. If this thing catches on, it'll render so many markets useless.
