Red Hook?

Good advice. I am going to be as far from you as I can, and I'd suggest others do the same

In all seriousness, congrats!!

Congratulations!

I took my road test in Garden City too! I got a mean, nasty woman, but I passed anyways.

do they always pick the nastiest people on the planet to be your instructor just to see how you do driving under pressure?

Not necessarily. A few of my friends had really cool instructors, but not many. The only thing I know is that if you take your road test in Garden City, most, if not all, of the instructors are mean. The advantage is that the test itself is usually short and the driving is easy. Other test sites have better instructors with longer, more difficult tests.

In NY don't you take your driving test on actual roads?

NJ is different... you go on a test course:
-Paralel Park
-k-turn
-a full stop and some turns

and your done
=]

@against the wall:

the instructors are pretty nasty...i know mine was. she made me parallel park between 2 cars that were sandwiched together (in NY, you only have to parallel park behind one car). i ended up hitting the curb because it was such a tight spot (you automatically fail for hitting the curb, but miraculously i didn't!). also, she criticized my k-turn, saying i failed to observe traffic and i was turning, which i didn't really understand.

but then again, you have to think...would YOU be happy if you were a road test instructor?
