Default How much is your Insurance?
Quoting myself on insurance, and It's a lot lower that What My mom expects it. My dad isn't too worried about the situation, but my mom is NO NO! She is utterly opposed to me driving at 16, but lately she realizes she should teach me. I'd likely be socially and Economically crippled If I didn't drive.

Ok At Allstates Ballpark Quotes (That's our current company)

Without Hypotherical Me My parents alone $290 every 6 months. (Most basic plan, the one we currently have) With me, (No car), Coverage jumps to 570 per six months, Still very payable. I quoted myself with a couple different cars, Volvo V70 = $730, Ford Focus $770, and the Infinti G20 at $750.

My parents think It's utterly expensive, but adding it up, it is possible.

How much is yours?

Doing it again, After putting on the "Good Student" Discount, insurance drops to around $490 without a car, and $540 to $660 with one.

the insurance on my 07 civic is around $1600 per year insured in NY, my 07 TL is insured in Miami, FL and costs a little over $2,000 per year both under my parents names though with me as a driver (since im 21, it would be ridiculously expensive with me as the only insured driver on either of my cars)

I changed insurance companies when I got my Mustang GT because they quoted me 7k per year and that was WITH my educator discount factored in. Mind you I had been with them 20 years, had never had a ticket nor any claim of any kind and was 44 years old. I apparently was a "high risk" individual. They informed me that their price was similar to others. Guess what? The Mustang, the Element, and the Rabbit are 2.2k with another company with higher coverages. It definitely pays to shop around.

I don't have a car of my own yet. But, in order for me to drive, I needed to be added to my parents' policy. They pay for the insurance outright. And the prices are very expensive, some $7,000 a year for our cars. Speaking for myself, I have earned that privilege in other areas other than work.

I'm not entirely sure where this animosity is coming from, but every family has a right to do things the way they please--whether that's paying for their child's car and/or insurance or letting them pay for it themselves--and it's not your place to pass judgment. This thread started out as an innocent question to members and if you can't contribute anything worthwhile then please don't contribute at all.

Well in the UK, we pay alot for our insurance. My first car - a 1.1 Fiesta (mean machine lol) was £1000 ($2000) for me to insure 'third party, fire and theft' which means that they only pay out if someone hits you, or it gets nicked or torched. That's why I opted to insure it in my mums name with me as a named driver. That took it down to £600, which I paid. To have gone 'fully comprehensive' (covers everything - as the name suggests lol) would have cost me well over £1,500!

After the age of 21 insurance goes down for us. Again after 25. My Saab 900 2.0 costs me £214 a year 'fully comp' which is a big difference.

the most stupid quote i've had, and even the insurance guy on the other end of the phoneline was laughing, was £1,200 third party to insure a Renault 4 1.2 GTL !! The reason - because it had 'GT' in the name! Madness. I was 24 at the time.

Is insurance a legal neccesity in the USA like it is over here? Police have the power to confiscate and crush our cars if we get stopped and they find we're driving without being insured!

in the USA, each state has their own laws regarding insurance.

For my '07 G6 coupe
its $1490 every 6 months
full coverage
allstate w/ good student discount

my grandparents pay my insurance, though, because they want me to focus on school and not worrying about working & paying for it. I do still work, though.

I get my insurance through USAA (my dad is a veteran so I am automatically a member) and I pay roughly $180 every six months for insurance without comprehensive and collision. (I do drive a 13 year old Camry, after all. Any repairs would cost what the car is worth, so they would just total it out anyways) Even with the C&C it would only cost me $390 for six months.
