Default Running Windows XP from External Drive??
According to this website its possible with some tweaking.

http://www.ngine.de/index.jsp?pageid=4176

But would it be the best thing. I tried creating a new partition on my main drive but do not feel like going through the trouble of doing a clean install of both OS'. So my thinking was to install it on a 40 gig partition of my external drive. According the the website posted above, it is possible and is fully functional.

Since XP and Vista (as well as the BIOS) supports booting from an external drive (XP Pro with some tweaking) should I go for it?

I believe that my computer would be able to beast XP and just wanted to try it out and see how well it worked. Curiosity is killing me on this subject.

Any other questions?

Setup is:

Dell Latitude D520

2.0 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo
2 gigs of RAM
120 gig HDD
DVD Burner
15 inch WXGA screen
Windows Vista Ultimate

anymore questions?

My question is why? Running from your external is going to be always slower, not to mention stability issues. You can easily partition your exisitng HD for XP, without reinstalling Vista, provided you have enough space.

It's gonna be slower. That's for sure. If you can't partition your drive then why not add a second internal drive? it will be faster at IDE or SATA vs. USB.

Are you trying to partition a drive wile an OS is mounted to it already? That's a no-no.
