How long does your mom need the car for?
Normally, short-term is the way to go, and I am talking about a few hours. Anything longer than a day, then I would recommend rental from normal fleets (i.e. Hertz, Avis). Within a day, this program makes great alternative.

my mom said that she might use it for errands and like picking us up from school sometimes, not for long, she said she'd like to rent for any thing longer...

For an hour or two, I would say that's the way to go. Never heard of it until today, actually.

From the sounds of it, a "real" rental would actually be much cheaper if you exceed a few hours. But, they give you free gas and insurance for the time you drive it. That's not realy saying much if you only drive the car for only a couple hours, but that's a plus.
