Living in NYC? While there on business, my mates and I constantly discuss what car to have if we lived there. We always come to the same conclusion: The cheapest, least-desirable piece of garbage that we could find so we wouldn't care what happened to it. Somebody hits you: what's another dent? Somebody breaks into it: the radio got stolen months ago. Potholes: struts are shot anyway. City tows it: fahgeddaboudit!

Sounds like your going to buy the car outright but if you consider leasing, we recently looked at the FX35 and it was almost as cheap to lease as a Murano, but you get soooo much more for your money. Just something to consider, although I don't think you would ever regret the Murano. Prooven quality and timeless looks.

I worked on them. At least one for sure. It's actually a very good car. I bit cheapy on plastics, more so than the Pacifica and Murano. Some people either are 50/50 with the exterior (C piller). If you like the style then I would jump on it because the Nissan theft/break in rate. Also, the Murano is due for a change soon. And most Nissan's like my Pathfinder are known for interior noise (wind and motor). I think your insurance will be cheapest with the Mazda. A notable mention is the Ford Escape. It has the highest reviews of any new small SUV. If you're like me then you'll double think Ford. Just jump to a 4WD instead on a AWD to save gas if that's an option for you on any car. For your information, I've had two new BMW's at different times while living in this city. My cousin has had two BMWs and a Range rover. None of these cars has been beat-up, a POS or broken into. The worst thing that ever happen to any of them while driving in NYC, was that my cousin got the bumper of his X5 scratched by some idiot who didn't know how to park. He did total his 3 series and the Range, but on both occassions that happened by being rear ended while parked at a red light. Both of those accidents took place in suburban central New Jersey. I appreciate the advice Vlatva, but Fresa is right. This is supposed to be a family car in which a baby and my wife will be relatively safe. Your recommendation only shows how little you know about my city or the needs that I requested people keep in mind while giving recommendations. If you aren't going to help then please don't post nonsense. |

The Escape was introduced in 2001 which means it probably began development in about 1997-98. The refreshed Escape is pretty much the 2001 model with a new nose. if you get the CX-7, get it in a color, not black, white, silver etc because the rear lights look so much better when the car is in an actual color. my dad wanted the light blue but it was so popular that they didnt have any in stock so he let me choose which color and since we just had a red car, the copper orange-red wouldnt do so i picked the electric blue.
the cx-7 has a 5star crash safety rating and 6 standard airbags |

That's what I wanted to hear. I gather you mean 2 front and 4 side right. BTW, thanks to all of you for the additional suggestions, but we've already narrowed it to these three models. I'm not really considering anything else beyond these three and I'm only asking for comparative advice between them. |

not exactly. the way I understand it, it's 2 front, 2 front-side and "air curtains" for front and back. But the front needs them more than the rear because in a side impact, the front passengers experience higher deceleration forces than the passengers in the rear seat.

Ignition wires are computer controlled and not high current like old cars. The list goes on and on. Some japanese cars still run old high current ignition wire setup. Most American cars first used the ECU igintion system. Chrysler arm is king of very little wires. |
