Hollister is the same company, but at a lower price point than A&F. A&F ha grown beyond the buying power of most highschoolers (which where the mainstay of their brand, so they expanded onto another brand which is essentially the same types of clothes, but with a different logo and at a cheaper price. College students with credit cards and young hipsters are now the mainstay at A&F. IMHO, both stores are overpriced an their clothes are kind of trashy. I'm more of a Banana Republic Kind of guy with a little J.Crew thrown in. |

sorry to break it to you but no one in the surfing crowd (me included) likes Hollister. its poser crap, and the kids in my school who wear it want to look cool and surf. like me, most surfers wont buy it because its too expensive, we would rather spend money on essential parts to surfing like THE BOARD and wetsuits and various other items. to sum it all up calling Hollister a surf company(despite what their shirts say) is a big mistake, its more like a poser company. If u want to wear surf clothes find lost or reef, or quicksilver Billabong-etc.
BTW- if there are any LI surfers on this forum, would you mind i.ming me on aim. i need to find some new spots. |

I dont think that if you buy Hollister is just cuz u are a surfer or what not. Hollister is just really hot right now cuz its a must have thing for alot if not all teens today, i myself shop there as well as A&F, yea some stuff is overpriced, mostly at Hollister though, because the textiles at A&F are of very high quality but then again you pay for what you get.
So u get the job or not?? My friend worked there for a bit and told me that they did give him a big discount but he didnt get paid very much and you gotta buy all A&F and Hollister clothes to work there. Oh i have another friend that worked at Hollister and told me that they are told to say "hi welcome to hollister/Abercrombie" to people that are "good looking" or are wearing their clothes, so when a heavy-set person or some one unattractive would walk in there they wouldnt say nothing. Next time you walk in any of these stores notice how the person stares at you from head to toe to see what you are wearing and how you look to see if you are worthy of them saying "hi welcome to hollister/Abercrombie" to you, i think its really ****ed up but thats what my friend told me. |

What's the word? In or out? Well let me start off by saying the tight t-shirt helped..the interviewer was gay. It also helped that it was a group interview & the other two people with me were chicks. There was a point where he asked me what was up with the cast in my finger from two weeks back when i broke it in the gym by dropping a 35lb dumbell on it & he said "I can tell you work out". It also helped that he let me answer all the questions first, & im a very detailed interviwee, hence the other 2 girls answers were all "so, umm..basically what Jesse said.." So..yeah..the jobs mine. I figure this is the start of the decline of my hearing abilities due to the high-decibled music they play in the store |

BTW- if there are any LI surfers on this forum, would you mind i.ming me on aim. i need to find some new spots. Wait a minute, your by line says that your are from NY, NY? where are you surfing, the east river? I'm not saying that you don't surf, but LI is crap when it comes to surfing, and there is definitely nothing out there I would remotely call a surfing culture. Brands like lost or reef, or quicksilver Billabong used to be mainstay of the surfing crowd, but they too went corporate. while they are still the big names and sponsors of surfing events, they have also turned somewhat into mall brands (especially quicksilver). Surfer culture and the clothes associated with it tend to revolve around well established regional surf shops, local shapers, and the bars local surfers hang out in. Often times throw in the local life guard association as well. I know because I grew up in several cities with very strong surf cultures and spent much my teenage years waking up extra early just to catch a few sets before going to school (my house was on the beach). After highschool I worked at several local hangouts (ie bars) where the local lifeguard and surfer community hung out. |
