its these types of things that scare me when i go to school every day. not the bully, but the lunatic with a gun. my school implemented a mandatory "you must wear your ID when on school property at any time" but they withdrew that and just forgot about it. i understand a huge campus is a different story than a high school but my school is pretty damn big. its really scary knowing that someone can just walk in with a gun without any motivation.

"Norris Hall is a tragic and a sorrowful crime scene, and we are in the process of identifying victims," university President Charles Steger said. Gov. Timothy Kaine, who was reportedly rushing home from a series of business-recruitment meetings in Tokyo, Japan, declared a state of emergency. Asked why the campus, which has more than 26,000 students, was not shut down after the first shooting, Flinchum responded that police determined "it was an isolated event to that building and the decision was made not to cancel classes at that time." Steger added, "We had some reason to believe the shooter had left campus." what a f....ng idiot, what reasons? people got killed on campus, he HAD to close down every building and cancel all classes after first shooting. Even if he left the campus, they still had to cancel everything until it goes down. Something tells me he is not going to be a president very soon. I feel sorry for all those families who lost their kids. I hope nothing like that happens here. Just last Friday morning some idiot threw a dynamite at a residence hall building here on my campus. Good thing I live off campus |

Good thing I live off campus Well in all fairness, Virginia Tech is a pretty big school. If there was a shooting at, say the University of Michigan's North campus, there is no way in hell they would cancel classes at any of the other campuses, as they're all at least 5 miles away from where the shooting occurred. And to be perfectly honest, now is not the time to be second-guessing the decisions. They were made and we can't change that. All we can do now is mourn the losses, and THEN ask the hard questions. |

Before anyone starts with conspiracy theories or NRA rants, I warn you. VT is my alma mater. These shootings have really hit home with me and my friends, especially my friends who were teaching class in the building next door to the shooting. If anyone starts being a smartass I'm personally deleting their post. no questions asked, no explanation given.

Thanks for the well wishes. I've finally heard from all my friends and they are all ok. Shaken up, but OK. My old roommate wasn't so lucky. Hi Hydrology professor is one of the dead.
--------------------------------- On another note the shooter has been identified. According to the VT Newspaper, the Collegiate Times, the shooters name was Cho Seung-Hui. He was a 23 year-old English major from South Korea and a student at VT. You can read more about it on the CT website: http://collegemedia.com/ For those of you with friends and loved ones at Tech, there is also a list of the names of the victims that is being updated. |

from the article i just read a few minutes ago, Mr. Seung-Hui was a very disturbed man, he was described as being depressed, quiet and angry(this is bad for me because people will be scared of me again like in middle school.I'm a quiet antisocial guy by nature i cant help it.) and the plays and projects he wrote were very violent and graphic. One play he had writen ended by a boy choking his step father with a rice crispy treat. wild,eh? prayers and blessings to the families. Its messed up when someone decides to take his anger out on others in a violent way.

This is such a tragedy, and I extend my grief to all the families that lost loved ones. I pray that no such events will ever happen again in the history of the world.
Just a few hours ago, NBC received a package from him including videos and photos of how he felt leading up to these tragic events. The scary this is that he sent them in between his two killing sprees. I've been watching them for a while, and they're quite chilling indeed. His thoughts explain a lot about why he carried out the killings and makes you realize that there are people in this world that are treated so cruelly during their lives, which unfortunately can drive them to make these destructive decisions. No people should EVER be treated this cruelly, no matter how much they stand out in society. I've always strongly believed in that, and if he were more accepted by society, this surely never would have happened. |
