Has anyone else noticed the vast amounts of negative comments on some other car forums and blogs? Luckily we are a polite lot here and well moderated, but even here some posts are unnecessarily harsh.
Autoweek's Combustion Chambers were possibly the best/worst example and before it was withdrawn, was rife with people critisising new cars, other posters, car companies, you name it. Now a lot of that negativity has made its way onto the blog comments. Possibly because you don't need to register to post a remark. I was always taught; "if you can't think of anything nice to say, don't say anything'. Why should I leap in to a discussion about some new car I don't really care about, just to spout off how much I think it looks like a 1996 Buick? or something? Maybe because it's so much easier to critisise than to offer reasoned opinion. And why do I get the feeling a lot of them don't read any of the earlier posts, so eager are they to voice their own $0.02. |

The key is that here on CSS it never has the opportunity to get out of hand as it does on AutoWeek. Some people question the strict moderation, but the fact is it's kept this forum from becoming a similar sideshow. AutoWeek, on the other hand (and, frankly, the vast majority of other auto forums), lack the "authorities" that can keep immaturity in check.
Which is why, basically, CSS is the only one I really follow on a regular basis. |

GMI sometimes annoys me. The seem to have some severe allergies to Toyota and Honda and Car and Driver.
When GM wins an award, they are very excited saying 'a well deserved win for GM' and other similar comments. However, when an import manufacturer, especially Toyota and Honda, acheive an accolade, first word that is posted is 'bias' and they complain and bash the publication saying that it is biased or the people who chose them were drunk. I posted about this numerous times on GMI and some reply saying I'm out of my mind. ![]() |

Well with all due respect, is that any surprise on a GM-specific forum? Yet another reason why I prefer to stick to a general automotive forum.
Interestingly enough, it seems we have a ton of members that also frequent GMI and C&G... yet not as many who belong to Ford, Toyota, Honda, DCX-specific sites, etc. Are GMI and C&G just that much bigger than everyone else? |

I have to say, we have some very knowledgeable members here, which makes for interesting discussions and great learning purposes for all members, regardless the level of enthusiasm.
Other forums I have been, admittedly most on seldom basis, I have seen some very absurd arguments, bias, and members, even from the largest and most respected web forums. |

Yes, I've gotten to know about the two forums from CSS. Those two forums seem to be the most active forums in the web. I've tried to adapt to The Temple of Vtec but it's so lonely and very quiet there. I am most active on CSS though because of what is said above. |

With such a wealth of knowledge I'm amazed CSS isn't larger than it is. Granted, most of the information we come across is second-hand (aside from our resident insiders and spy photogs), but it's so nice that everything is all here in one place--regardless of manufacturer, region, price, etc. It's... concise, and very easy to manage.
Not that I'm saying I want there to be as many members here as at GMI. That's how problems get started. |

Yup, we sure do.... Quote, originally posted by DoMiNo »As a sidenote, does anyone ever wonder what goes on in the Mods only forum? What sneaky, diabolocal schemes they hatch? Who they're talking about? Maybe a black list? What I'd give to know what goes on in the halls of power! Edit: there is a mod forum, right? At least there used to be... Sorry, that moderator information only ![]() |
