'Tis Lunar New Year! The Year of the Dog is upon us!
Don't take a bath today or you'll wash away all your luck! Wear red undies! Oh, and you should've taken a bath yesterday to wash away all your bad luck. And put on red undies yesterday, after the bath, too. But I guess it's a tad too late for that, eh? |

Dammit, I really wish I was in S. Korea right now - I've love to be celebrating 'Sollal' (as they say in Korea) with all of my family. And by all of them, I mean ALL OF THEM:
My immediate family, my grandma and grandpa, my eight aunties/uncles, my 12(!) cousins and my four first cousins once removed. That results in a HUGE family gathering. It's great. |

Happy (Chinese) New Year to all, especially those in the Chinese communities. I am going to Chinatown today to join the celebration; I am sure there are tons of festivities and (free) food. Don't know if there is a best spot to be but I'll just go with the flow (and people).
Anyone would like to share some history and tradition about the holiday? Quote, originally posted by Hornbag »My friend Katrina said I'm a snake in the year of the dog (I don't get it), whick means I'm smart ![]() From what I learned, dog and snake are two of the chinese zodiacs (tweleve total), somewhat similar the signs (leo, libra, sagittarius, etc). Each chinese zodiac appears every twelveth year (so if you are a dog, you are now a mulitple of 12 - age: ex. 12, 24, 36, 48, 60 and so on). I think the order of the zodiacs, starting with the rat, ox, tiger, hare (rabbit), dragon, snake, horse, goat (sheep), monkey, rooster, dog, boar (pig). So next year if you are a pig, you age would be multiples of 12. Anyone with insights to the Chinese New Year, please share. I know I would like to learn more about this holiday and celebration ![]() Modified by knicks125 at 10:59 AM 1/29/2006 |

roar :P I made a mistake - I am still learning and trying to piece together how everything works ![]() Quote, originally posted by yanksrule26 »knicks you probably know this but in chinatown the run-down restaurants are usually better than the nicer looking ones. Yeah I think I heard about that...something like "don't judge by the outside apperances", as mentioned in an article i read. Alright, I'm leaving now so if anyone's there, look for a CSS sign ![]() |
