I think some of our members need to become aware of this fine new york tradition.
Festivus is an end of the year Holiday developed by Queens resident Frank Costanza (George's father of Seinfeld fame), partly in protest to the commercialization of the end of the year holidays. Festivus is celebrated on December 23rd each year. The Festivus Meal consists pretty much of whatever you want. However, no Festivus is complete without the traditional Festivus Fruitcake. The passing of the Festivus Fruitcake is a yearly tradition. Start yours today! Feel free to use the tag on the link below to make sure your victim....I mean recipient, is aware of the "tradition": Festivus Fruitcake Tag The appropriate greeting for the Festivus celebration is: A Festivus, For the Rest of Us!!! or "Happy Festivus, For the Rest of Us!!!" The Festivus celebration consists of three parts: 1. The Festivus Pole: The traditional Festivus decoration is not a tree, but a pole. No decorations are needed. Tinsel is very distracting from the true meaning of the holiday. The pole is tall, silver, hollow, long, skinny, and heavy. 2. The Airing of Grievances: During the Festivus celebration, families and friends get together at the dinner table and have something called "the Airing of Grievances". This is the part of the holiday where you tell your family and friends all the ways they have disappointed you during the year. It is a very liberating way to end the year. Use the sheet below to make sure you have all your grievances listed: Grievance List 3. The Feats of Strength This is the final part of the Festivus the celebration. After the Airing of Grievances the head of the family tests his strength against any one lucky individual, usually by wrestling or moving heavy objects. The great honour is given out to a different person each year. Festivus is not officially over until the head of the family is pinned down. If you are chosen to match the head of the family in a feat of strength, you are allowed to decline only if you have something to do instead. Now Get ready to celebrate Festivus and dont forget your very own Festivus Greeting Cards, so you too can spread the Festivus joy, use the following document to create Festivus greeting cards. If you print them two to a page they are the perfect size: Festivus Greeting Cards Now spread the word and a happy Festivus, For the Rest of Us everybody!!! Perhaps a Festivus thread is in order... 8-) |
