well i heard yesterday from numerous sources, that we might be getting a name change here in toledo.
daimler-chrysler who makes numerous vehicles at thier toledo plant, is in talks with the city to change Toledo's name, to Nitro, Ohio ![]() Apparantly an upcoming vehicles from chrysler will be the Chrysler Nitro. and it will be made here in toledo. as part of publicity i assume, they want to change the name of toledo to that of the nitro, in order to actually build the new car here. in our recent mayoral election, Cart FinkBeiner was elected to office. and he is the one that is in talks with chrysler over the possibility of changing the name. the scary part is that finkbeiner was in office back when daimler first boughtout chrysler. they wanted to tear down the old jeep plant and build a new modern facility in another area of town. however, there was no where in town that offered the space and access to highways that they needed. as a result, finkbeiner got in bed with chrysler and they found a locations... which just happened to have numerous existing business, AND residential homes. guess what... the city claimed eminent domain, and those who didnt sell thier homes and land to chrysler, were evicted from their land by the city. the plant was built. now carty is back in office, and chrysler wants to change the name of the city, as a freakin promotional stunt! and i know carty is exactly the man to make it happen. the only benefit to toledoans that i have heard about, is that 1. it will create new jobs in toledo, with the new vehicle being produced here. and 2. they are talking about a Residential Incentive for purchases of the Nitro upon its 2007 release. basically, the car companies have "employee pricing" and chrysler is goign to offer "residential pricing" to anyone who is a resident of "nitro" when they purchase a nitro. i think its kind of funny actually. we'll see if it actually happens. i know other cities have renamed themselves in the past. what will we cal ourselves? nitroans nitroites nitrates hmmmmm i'll let ya know if i hear anything else. just figured you guys might find it humorous to what lengths big business will go to promote thier products. ![]() |

No offense, but changing a town's name to advertise a product looks to me as idiotic as can be.
Such a thing would never happen here, where all names have an ancient root. Toledo, for example (and i mean Toledo in Spain, a city more than 2000 years old), comes from the latin name 'Toletum': the city was consecrated to the god of water Tolt when founded by Marco Fulvio Nobilio in year 192 bC. ...castrum meum Canales inter Vlmos et Toletum super Goderramam situm... |

Or Truth or Consequences, NM. Named after an old radio gameshow, or something like that.
What I really take issue with is the fact that "too" is spelled wrong in the title of this thread. Oh, and the fact that it implies Chrysler's wrong doing, as opposed to the idiotic city government who would actually give in to such a gimmick... |

I make mine your word. This looks a litle to much, I'dd prefer to confirm this story before making any coments on it....I just don't beliave this ![]() |
