See thats another problem. When my mom was trying to find a replacement for our 97 Explorer I suggested that we should get a Pilot, MDX, Sequoia, or a Land Crusier. Eventhough my mom knows about my knoledge of cars, she did not take my advice and bought an 02 Expedition (eventhough the new 03s were out). Everytime she complains about her car falling apart I always say "you shoulda listened to me"

I do that too. I'm able to recognize a pretty wide variety of cars based on little details (like door handles or steering wheels, or seat stiching patern). I don't go out of my way to memorize stuff like that, it just sort of happens. It annoys the wife because I'm always pointing out what cars people in movies and TV are driving, and telling her how what they are showing is wrong since you can't do that in that particular car. My favorite is pointing out when they show cars with traction control and all kinds of elctronic driver's aids squealing their tires. It's especially annoying to watch them do it when driving over gravel or dirt.

That's pretty trashy. Here it is with buses. They use whatever headlights and rear lights they find. Typically you get a bus with a mercedes front lights and grill.... and a Mitsu Pajero/Shogun/Montero rear lights. It's stupid.

Exact same here. I also recognise a range of cars by their sound, but It gets harder nowdays with modern cars. I still recognise enough so that I don't have to stand up and look what car is passing by infront of my house most of the times.

Anyway that I can do too. Recognize cars by their headlights or mirrors or roof (which is important when owning a Land Rover, too regognize the car behind you in a traffic light) or many other parts. never fails! (welll nearly never)

I know they made an S-10 SS or something to that extent before the extreme...that did have SS badges on it I believe...and in 1991 there was the 454 SS silverado, but from the way it sounds this was neither of them...

Yea I tend to yell out when i see a nice car, my dad ignores it and my mom tries to see the car im poiting out, i think they got used to it. But its usally when i meet a guy that says he likes cars and i start going in depth and he has no idea what im talking about and looks at you funny, thats when i feel a bit weird. Yea thats happened to me a lot since Im constantly tryingt o find someone else with the same passion i have for cars

Yeah, I try to distinquish cars from their noises, although I'm not very good at it. When I was in Europe, some of my friends thought I was weird chasing nice cars down the street with my camera in hand.
When I was there, I started trying to identify where certain numbers plates were from, which was a little bit entertaining.

i'd be able to identify a car by its headlights at night better if i didn't have 20/80 vision, but when i wear glasses (not very often) it's easier.

I know of both those vehicles. I like both. This was your run of the mill Z71 pickup with Wal*Mart hoodscoops stuck on, generic sunvisor, and crappy taillight covers, Basically generic poor boy beater rice.

I was driving on the freeqay next to a guy in a black BMW 540...from a distance it looked like a 2001+ 5 series...he had the clear LED taillights, but then I noticed he had the unpainted black plastic molding with the chrome trim...right away I knew he was faking it...I pull up next to him and take a quick glance at him then pulled forward a little more...noticed he had angle eyes, but they had the clear indicators which led me to believe those were also aftermarket and I also noticed the front airdam was from a pre-2001 e39 also. Then I also noticed his rims which were small very stock rims which looked like they belonged on a base model 528...he didn't have the sport package, I could tell because if the ride height...I backed off and evened up with him and rolled down my window...I looked over at him and he did the same with me...I yelled out at him "Lemme guess...1999 528?" (I threw the 99 out there just randomly...could've been any pre-2001 e39, but it looked fairly clean and 99 popped up in my head first)...The guy gave me the dirtiest look and switched lanes and sped off... haha...poor guy...probably hurt his ego...

I love cars. I always havem and always will. I can recognize most US car by year/make/model 1990 and newer. I can tell the subtle diffrences in year to year changes in alot of models. I have a huge passion for cars. I can remember as far back as age 2 pointing out diff cars on the highway. I learned to read by reading Motor Trend/reading car names.

I too shout in the car when I see a sweet car when it zooms past, but my whole family is used to it I guess. I help a lot with my parents when it comes to car choosing, and I'm kind of the 'go to' man amongst my friends when they have a car problem and they need an asnwer.

I can always recognize the Ford Transit. Its amazing how much technology has evolved, and that van still sounds the same as it did 20 years ago.
I think i've been a car freak all my life. Before i could even read i used to nag people into telling me what cars where what, and i could identify lots of them. At first my parents thought this was funny, but then when i turned ten i started constantly asking them for money to buy car magazines, and the fun stopped. Go figure... it actually got to the point where my mother started threatening me with throwing all my magazines into the trash when she wanted to upset me, and saying stuff like " why do you buy these things... " in that oh-you-have-so-disappointed-me-my-son voice. This only stopped one day where i answered back " well, i could do drugs... ".
I also remember loosing bets in highschool for not being able to not talk about cars for one full day. But i'm better now
