Well, if NY Didn't get it, San Diego and Tijuana were going to make a bid, riding on the fact it would be the first multi-national Games (As in, played in multiple countries, not by multiple countries)
Thanks for sacrificing Santeno, we have our shot now

It wasn't "My Idea"...

Among them are Busan, South Korea; Delhi, India; Dubai, United Arab Emirates; Hamburg, Germany; Sapporo or Fukuoka, Japan; a San Diego-Tijuana, Mexico, joint venture; and Tel Aviv.

And Santeno, Knicks, and whoever else is a New York member...

I live in NYC and in some ways i'm glad we didn't get it. The city seems to spend an inordinate amount of money in major capital projects on Manhattan island (below 110th street) and very little on the rest of the island or any of the other buroughs. IMHO the stadiuym proposal should have been made for the Queens (Long Island City) - within view of midtown Manhattan - water front from the very begining, and not moved out to flushing meadows after manhattan wouldn't approve it (and given as a consolation price to the mets).
On the other hand I'm glad that London got it instead of France. The reports I saw kept talking about how smug Paris' mayor was acting while everyone thought they were the preferred choice (and how Chirac insulted british cusine - even if he had a point it was uncool). Now I have double the excuse for that london pub crawl I've been planning.
