They have a lot of catching up to do
I dont think wikipedia can be beaten... I even use it for stuff like sport results because it updates faster than the official sites

no, before wikipedia, it makers try something like this but it didn't work that well. wikipedia was actually the side project but it end up overtaking the original program.

I think there's a subtle difference between knol and wikipedia. Knol is more about 1 expert writing an article about a particular subject, whereas wikipedia is lots of experts contributing to the same article. This means Wiki might be more inconsistent, but it should be more objective.

Knol is going to be VERY usefull as quotable source because you get background info about the author. I see a lot of students already rubbing their hands.

True, but most of the time the real experts will edit out all the crap and keep a particular topic in good shape.
