Oh, thank Christ. I thought it was going to be a video of your junk in your phone's headphone jack.

LOL seriously it only taken how long to work out theres more android handsets that apple and no one caters for them!
I saw another company start advertising a sound system that is dnla compatible so various formats can use it, its about time as its getting stupid walking to currys seeing 50 docking stations all iPhone dedicated.

I don't think it was easy considering the tens and tens of different android handsets, all with different designs and different port locations.

Oh i totally agree, fragmentation is a issue!
But seriously considering the technical state of play you mean to tell until now no one could devise a system that would be manufacturer compatible?
I cant see how companies like Samsung, HTC and such have no been approached about supporting the individual manufacturer? As long as the phones were built with the interface being compatible it would ensure success, so phones like the galaxy, galaxy s and galaxy sii would all have the same location for the usb interface.

Hopefully this is a start in the right direction?

Am i missing something? Android is already comparable with all desktop speakers and everything else that works with a headphone jack. What is the point of these dumb docks?

Charge and play at the same time would be the big benefit, I guess?

Personally, I have a LG "home theater" soundbar that I use for my TV. I bought it specifically because it has Bluetooth, which I use for my phone and tablet. It's better than my TV's speakers so it does double duty. Money better spent than on a dock, IMO.

Almost all ipod docks access the idevice line out signal to bypass the internal amp and get a decent output. Don't think there is any andriod device with accessible line out. Until then all andriod docks will end up doing is double amp the signal which is not good.

You are not passing your audio through a typically shitty DAC through a shitty interface into your speakers.

What's the benefit over plugging your android device in to the mains and line in on another dock? I've yet to hear one that sounds good enough for bypassing the DAC to make any difference.

Then you do not care enough.

The perform of a DAC is directly related to the stability of the reference signals. Things like EMI and quick changes in load can affect these supplies. Also, beyond the DAC, you have to consider the filtering and driving circuit. Unfiltered noise gets amplified to the port and then amplified again by an external source. The list goes on.

I know what it does, and if I was linking up to a cyrus pre / power-amp and outputting to some Spendor sp9's I might give a toot. But hooking up to a dock to play party music hardly qualifies as high fidelity.

This is a very good point.

This is a very good point.
To elaborate further, people that buy a dock like this as their main system won't care if they lose a bit of quality in throughput, and people who have a decent system won't care either as they have a proper stereo as well. So what is gained over a 3.5mm stereo lead and a mains plugged in android device?
