the problems with studio and networks is that all they care about is ratings. Up until recently most ratings didnt include dvr recordings as something being watched. It still doesnt include all the shows that people watch on hulu or netflix. the reason the networks are doing this is because they make all their money through advertising. if you dvr something, more than likely you arent watching the commercials. if you watch it on netflix you dont have commercials. Until the networks get with the program and realize this is the future and the way things are going to be it is going to suck for viewers. I feel that several quality programs end up getting canceled because the ratings dont show viewers watching it because people are watching netflix or hulu, sponsers and financial backers arent going to pay for their commercials to be run on low rated shows which in turn causes it to get canceled. I feel like some of the best shows on tv are falling victim to this. the only way to counter it and get the shows to get new seasons is to charge the services higher fees. I had netflix because it was an awesome deal. when the price went up I kept it because its still an awesome deal.
Prior to this I was paying $30 a month to a local rental shop for a similar rental program for bluray. I had to go get them and bring them back, and since they usually only had a couple of copies it was often months before I would get the movie I wanted. I usually found myself renting some old 80's movie I had never heard of just so I wasnt paying for nothing until I could find a movie I wanted. Netflix is worth the price. I think the seperate programs is better. Only thing I wish they would do is let me and my wife create seperate instant queue under the same account. between the two of us is usually around 100 movies. |
