Default Verizon 4G LTE is fast!
My mom got a 4G Thunderbolt. Decent phone. I installed speedtest to check out what speeds 4G has.

It varied every single test and depending if it had 5 bars or 4 bars. Though best it was able to pull off was 25Mb download and 20Mb upload.

I'd say most of the tests were around 15~18Mb download and 8~12Mb upload. But with peak speeds of 25/20, that is pretty freaking impressive.
Too bad though that they capped bandwidth. [thumbdown]

I wonder if these 25/20 speeds are mainly because so few actually have a 4G phone. As more get them, maybe it'll slow down a little unless Verizon has enough infrastructure in place.

I doubt it will. I can confirm this article:
http://www.bgr.com/2011/06/28/when-w...lte-slow-down/

I've been seeing the same 4G speeds from verizon since day one in San Diego. Also keep in mind Verizon is still making a huge 4G network expansion and new customers will all be data capped as well.

I've got a thunderbolt, and I'm still about an hour's drive away from the nearest 4G zone. [no]
Hope they expand that stuff up here soon, I want blazin' internet speeds! 3G is not so much fun.

4G LTE is nice, my work gave me an LG Revolution but jesus christ current battery configurations cannot handle 4G LTE and 1Ghz CPUs. My LG Revolution while on charger streaming Netflix over 4G consumes so much power that the Charger can't keep up with the consumption. Even tho it it is charging the battery still depletes. Also 4G makes the phone INCREDIBLY hot.... Also the phone never lasts a day. I have exchange setup on it since they gave it to me to test as a blackberry replacement. I kid you not I took my phone off the charger at 6AM, head to work, and at 5PM I was in the datacenter and had to take a picture of one of my servers showing the damage caused from shipping... I used the phone for the first time that day at 5PM and it was at 19% battery. Same problem with my co-workers charge and thunderbolt. It isn't low signal, we just spent 750k installing antennas with Verizon, ATT, t-mobile, and Sprint in our building.

Phones need to get thicker again with 4G LTE option, raise the C discharge/charge Rating of the battery as well as the Capacity. I think 3000mAh with a 5-10C Discharge and 5C Charge Rating would be ideal. You could charge that battery in 12min flat if you provided a charger and 2 batteries per phone. Charge the 2nd battery on the charger in 12min and the one in the phone in 60min (less heat produced) with those specs.

With the new basic tier you'll reach your data cap after about 10 minutes of downloading [rofl]

After the contract is up on my Moto X2 I'm switching to Virgin...LTE would be awesome if it's ever deployed here but almost $80 / month for 2GB of data on the cheap plan is the lamest crap ever.

I have a Verizon 4g aircard I use to work. It's incredible how fast it is, but sometimes it takes forever to grab a page, you know, sorta like satellite.

It's funny, us in Europe used to look down on the US for having terrible infrastructure and market penetration of mobiles, now they've got some of the best manufacturers and kit

Yet the canadian Droid 3 craps all over the american one because it exclusively has 4G. Why can't you just import the american one? It is a world phone.

The price for it is very high.
