The problem is typically that the higher-ups in any given company want to nickel-and-dime their IT security, typically only reacting once a breach has taken place... with the constant cries of the security folks falling on deaf ears, yet they're also the first to be blamed for the security failures. [thumbdown] Sometimes it's just plain careless, complacent or stupid IT staff - possibly due to management not paying a decent wage for skilled staff or their training. I'm not in IT, but run into these issues a number of times in other fields. |

They have zero interest in the "gaming culture." Why not look into the political motivation for why they might target Sony. [rolleyes] The rest have merely been fallout from people folks looking for laughs and their 5 minutes of fame. The hacker group Lulz Security has claimed it has brought down the public-facing website of the US Central Intelligence Agency. The alleged hack on CIA.gov occurred on the same day the group opened a telephone request line so its fans could suggest potential targets. On its Twitter feed, the group wrote: "Tango down - cia.gov - for the lulz". The CIA website was inaccessible at times on Wednesday but appeared to be back up on Thursday. The hack claim could not immediately be verified. It was unclear if the outage was due to LulzSec's efforts or to the large number of internet users trying to check the site. No one can be 100% safe from hacking, dettol only kills 99.9% of germs after all, but when things are running wild who do you think they will turn to? Laws and governments. I used "controlling the Internet" in a very broad term there, which you singled down to something like the Chinese do. There are many other ways to do it. The government not stepped in before? Well I dont recall such media attention on it before. Hackers will soon enough get carried away, perhaps not the ones that started it but the retards soon follow. I am not saying things will change tomorrow, but nothing positive will come of this, just ridiculous laws and systems that hurt us all. |
