Truly awesome apps that require root:
Wifi Tether = Makes your phone into an access point without having to pay the extra $ to the carrier for the same function.
You don't need root for that, I can do that out of the box with my Desire HD

Cheers, I like the arc interface but it seems to have a few too many problems I can't get over.
So did you get the phone yet or what?

LockInfo + plugins, Bytafont, iFile, SBSettings, Winterboard, Cydia, Activator, Five Icon Dock.

They are all great for a first time jailbreaker. [thumbup]

I just purchased one of these to replace my palm pre 2 because im a gadget w****e.

So far getting to grips with android, however as stated above i dont like the default samsung layout... Any tips in regard to sorting this?

Also WiFi and 3G performance seem not great, doesnt seem anywhere near as "smooth" as my current Palm Pre 2 or Apple Ipad 2... Android just had this whole effect of being fairly unresponsive.

Maybe it will grow on me or are there things i should be doing ?

To bad not everyone uses the same carrier. Most carriers require you to pay, or you need to root.

I think that's more of a US specific thing.

Install Gingerbread Launcher for the stock Android ui or ADW Launcher if you're not a fan of Touchwiz. Both are available on the Android Market.

My GSII review on Neowin: http://www.neowin.net/news/neowin-me...ng-galaxy-s-ii

And check out this demo reel from Samsung:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4n2Kp4ekWNs

Samsung really are focused on giving users what they want especially with open development just launched giving access to resources to developers.

Thought I would add these results here, some results from GLBenchmark 2.0, Tegra 2 results taken from Anandtech and Galaxy S II results from me.

Egypt
Galaxy S II = 42.2 fps
Optimus 2X = 25.2 fps

Pro
Galaxy S II = 59.8 fps (60 fps cap)
Optimus X2 = 51.2 fps

As I suspected the early anandtech results were way off, it destroys Tegra 2. [thumbup]

Both my Desire and Desire S can do this on AT&T unrooted. it makes my wifi only galaxy tab a real treat to use with no monthly fee.

From what I've read, some Galaxy 2's will be getting the Tegra 2 themselves.

Ralph, don't suppose you know which one you got?

Tegra 2 is GT-i9103 model, Exynos 4210 is the GT-i9100.

Recompile your OS with functional customizations baked in and get back to us about how it went... [thumbdown]

Plus, the iPhone 4 has miserable hardware in comparison to the SGSII. [yes]
But it's crippled by the stupid bloated Dalvik VM. Native Code FTW!!!!!

Atleast gingerbread supports fully native apps through the NDK .. but probably most apps don't use it.

Thats only for certain regions, it will also have an LCD screen instead of SAMOLED plus, I don't think any have been released yet.

When it boots up it says i9100.

Interesting problem....on three occasions now the touch sensitive buttons have stopped working on the home screen. They still work fine in apps but normally hitting the left one on the home screen will open a menu and that has stopped. Only a reboot solves this.
