It took me about 30 seconds to realize you were talking about Cursive.

I was never good at it, and in 3rd grade received a D+ in Handwriting and swore I'd never write in Cursive again. It took me over 2 minutes to write the silly little honor statement on my SAT and GRE tests. I was looking at the girl in the GRE office next to me writing her statement because I forgot how to write a Q . She gave me a huge scowl back as if I was cheating from her test.

Haha, I used to cheat my way out of writing cursive in grade school. The teachers all insited that it was the future and a necessity [rolleyes]

I still remember how to write it, but my regular handwriting is pretty bad so my cursive is not a nice sight for the eyes.

I mix the two...

I never write in just one or the other.

Usually I write block, but the letters "l" "t" "a" "f" "g" and "y" always wind up cursive and connected to whatever is next.

The future? Did you go to school around 900AD or something?

I have to say my hand writing has always been terrible. It comes with being intelligent I suppose.

That doesn't explain why yours is so bad...

They said the same to me and the other pupils. While it does have its appealing form, it's not a necessity especially today when most things are written with 1's and 0's.

Having read the thread title, I instantly thought "Bees".

Nevermind me.

[puts up hand]
Me too - but while my handwriting (cursive) was a horrible spider track, my teachers found it quite easy to read ([shocked]), especially compared to some of the others who had terribly neat writing, almost machine like, that was very tiring to read because the letters looked so much alike...

I struggle to write at all to be honest. I tend to use more block capitals at work now though. I blame the rise of Microsoft Word. Every essay I did at school was typed.

I adore my moms and dads handwriting and their signatures, they look so "cool". My handwriting looks like a dog has pooped onto the sheet. Horrible.

If I had kids I would want them to learn handwriting, in my opinion everything looks cleaner and more tidy with it. Okay, we type more and more, and write less and less, but to me its kinda like an old art form, which shouldnt be forgotten. Data wont even last 10 years if you dont copy it from disk to disk, but hand written stuff can be read in a 100 years. Its so amazing to read stuff my grandparents had written in their youth for example.

Long story short, I know handwriting isnt really important for our every days life, but in itself its an important skill.

My handwriting is terrible, but it becomes great when I do "running" writing (cursive), best in my class apparently. Though I think my teacher was just surprised how my chicken scratch block letters transformed when "running".

Not sure why, perhaps it's the constant flow? To this day my writing hasn't improved from grade 3. It's gotten worse if anything, I rarely write unless just filling out forms

My handwriting is sometimes very neat, and sometimes very sloppy.

I can't explain it. Sometimes I can write very clean and uniform without trying, sometimes I can't do so at all when I am trying.

My writing is mostly block with subtle hints of cursive.

I accidentally wrote my GRE honor statement in block. When I asked if I should re-do it, the lady looked very annoyed and accepted it anyway Good thing, because I would've taken 5 minutes to write that in cursive.

Who writes like all these?

I do but sometimes stuff up the z but I think most people do, I also find most people don't do the lower case s or f.

I alway's write f in the loops even when writing in block, a lower case block f just looks shite otherwise
