Fair point, they could have been. If they existed. If another planet, millions upon millions of lightyears away decided to have a nosey at the neighbours I think they'd send out more than the equivalent of three kids in a volkswagen.

Think about it, the possibilities are basically unlimited.
First of all, nobody is flawless, every life form we know is capable of making errors so we could suggest that go´s for aliens as well.
btw who says that an alien race is sending anyone ?
Let´s just imagine for a sec that space travel isn´t a big thing for et´s, maybe ufo´s are something that some bored aliens build in their garages and fly for fun ?
Maybe visiting earth is like visiting a zoo for them ?
Maybe the Ufo´s are AI controlled, drones ?
Maybe we are the products of our early ape relatives and alien genetic engineering and their just checking out how were doing

My mind is open, I am sure there is something out there somewhere. It's just this whole flying saucer thing is a bit ridiculous. Everyone was obsessed with flying saucers, and then lo and behold, a flying saucer shaped object is found. The chances of them looking anything like people's imaginations is very slim!

Saying that, they wouldn't be first lifeforms to bump into a foreign planet. Ranger 9 (USA) bought it in spectacular style back in the 60's and if you point to anything in the near solar system on a map you can be fairly certain the Russians have smashed something into it.
