I'd rather make a cheap HTPC with XBMC, or for a similar price buy something like a Revo and run XBMC, I've played about with Boxee, it's not bad but there's better out there.

Seems you could also make your own: http://www.boxee.tv/make

I've been looking at these things lately (apple tv, boxee, and similar), my Blueray player has netflix built in but no DVR and I can't get TV shows etc.

Apple TV just looks more appealing to me from a finish and UI perspective. Been around longer too. And it integrates with the ipad/iphone/OSX etc. *shrug* just something to consider as I believe you use more of those products.

Bare in mind Apple TV will only do up to 720P before you purchase it.

It's odd to me, 720p is something that I thought came and left within a very short time period. Thought everything was 1080p these days ya know? But I keep seeing 720p pop in here and there...and it really is like wtf?

Tiger Direct emails ads out like 46" Samsung LCD HDTV $399!!!!!! (720p)

*shrug*
