Steve Jobs has a neuroendocrine tumor of the pancreas as opposed to adenocarcinoma, a tumor of the exocrine pancreas. While I have no information on the specifics of the kind of neuroendocrine tumor he has, generally it's not nearly the kind of death sentence that adenocarcinoma of the pancreas carries, and even in disseminated stage has a 5-year survival that nears or exceeds 50%, depending on the specifics of the tumor. When originally diagnosed, Mr Jobs, in his wisdom, chose not to have medical or surgical therapy, and instead pursued a "diet" and a course of "alternative" treatment for something like 2 years, prior to the tumor progressing to a stage where he could no longer avoid a real medicine intervention
At that point, he had a Whipple procedure, which is a huge surgery, involving resection of multiple organs in addition to the pancreas. At this point, it appears as if the treatment was too late and he is likely suffering from disseminated disease.

It's a horrible death, and I do not wish it on anyone... and it is a pity that he did not do as you stated, and did not use his vast resources intelligently.

Exactly what i watched my wifes mother die from, she had the same procedure and it managed to extend her life a few more months, but it had destroyed 2 thirds of her pancreas, infected the lymph nodes and spread to other organs by then, she was unable to digest her food and basically vomited everything back up, she was also too weak for Chemo, yea, i wouldn't wish it on anyone, not my worst enemy.

So it's also a subject i find impossible to garner any sort of humour from, looking at those pics of Steve Jobs, i remember her mum looking that way when she had about 6 months left, she was only 42 but looked like she was in her late 70s, she was 5ft 7" and weighed less than 5 stone (70 pounds) when she died.

Yeah I can imagine it's not just limited to FM. It would be nice to know this is just how people act online and arn't actually like this for real. Then again, actng like a **** for real would explain why so much time is spent here and not with the friends they don't have.

Love or loath Apple, all Jobs has brought to the world is positive. He's obviously got brains, talent and balls in a way that is quite unique, so he will be missed.

I think a lot of it is geeks that don't understand how to interact socially trying to copy the banter they see their cool friends and TV characters on comedy shows having and just coming across as arseholes.

That's my hypothesis anyway. I will now await a psych major to come along and pull it apart.
