I'm sitting at Chili's, having a beer and posting this from Blackberry 9800. works great for me especially sice I have full data, text and phone all paid for and supplied by my employer. This phone works pretty good and I've spent to much on apps.

Ms pacman, Galaga, Sim city, pandora radio.

I've been driving around taking poics of the superbowl Dallas Cowboys stadium jamming to Pandora radio on the car stereo! Cheaper than sat radio too.

That might also be worth waiting for, not really a great time to buy a smartphone imo.
I´ve come to learn that to any given time and any given product someone will say "wait another 2 months for product XYZ,...
I don´t need the best of the best, i dont need the alpha and omega of smartphones,
just a decent one.

Yes but sometimes it's worth it, it would be like buying a GTX480 for £400 before GTX580 was launched and now it's not even worth £200. What do you think is going to happen to all the old Galaxy S phones once the Galaxy S2 is launched?

You may not need the best of the best but waiting can at the very least save you money when new stuff is about to get released.

Just trying to look out for you.

If you want battery life, you can pretty much forget the majority of the high end Android phones.
lol balls. I take mine (desire) off charge at 8AM. With average use (including reading comics for about 1.5 hours on the loo at work and in bed) I get to bed (about midnight, 1ish) with 50% plus left.
No sane person expects a phone they use for general ****ing about (internets, comics, games) to last multiple days. If you do, you want a nokia nothing phone. No diss at all, they are the best for long life, need to be in contact phones.
How's your iPhone do? Pretty shitty in comparison I reckon.

Not balls, my old man has a HTC Desire HD and it last a day. My flatmates girlfriend had a Samsung Galaxy phone and that would barely even make a day ( she texts a lot! ) My iPhone on the other hand has gone up to 3 days with about 5-6hrs of use including gaming / texting / web. Also a sane person would want good battery life. I would hate being worried about using any of the good features such as games and web, with the worry in the back of the mind it may not last a day. I use my phone a lot, and it would be of no use to me if I had to be concerned about battery life all the time.

lol balls my actual (not a mates) missus has a 3g iPhone and the battery life is shite, not close to my desire. My work mate has an original iPhone which is on lowest brightness 24/7 and he's fortunate if it lasts the day.
Your Dad needs to look for a rogue app, and you...

There is night and day difference between the iPhone 4 and iPhone 3G.

It all depends on usage and how you manage your battery, I can easily last over a day with moderate use on a Galaxy S and do 2-3 with just a few calls, while I know iPhone 4 users who have to bring a charger to work with them as it won't last the day.

Your mates girlfiend could be leaving stuff on like bluetooth, wifi, GPS, data network and probably has lots of live apps and widgets that need constant updates, could also have the brightness turned up or have something stupid running constantly like a task killer or antivirus, hell even the screen autorotate feature uses up extra battery.

Point is unless you know exactly what their doing with the phone you can't judge battery life.

EDIT: I forgot live wallpapers, another battery killer.

My iPhone lasts two full days with fairly heavy use. You are referring to phones from a few years back.

Anyway, a lot of the phones recommended in this thread seem overkill for what Golem is looking for in a phone.

.
Allot of people would disagree with with you, I googled it and found this link, many more like it.

http://thenextweb.com/apple/2010/06/...-yes-38-hours/

Now read just a few comments from users, [rofl]

38 hrs my ass,Im in a 3G area and Im lucky if it last 8 hrs, whomever posted this is a idiot
Absolute Bull! My iPhone4 battery doesn’t last more than 18 hours. Use it for accessing the internet through Wifi or GPRS and tell me if it lasts for 38 hours!
I have to recharge my phone twice daily
My iPhone 4 battery life is awful. I’m a techie, so I know to shut down background apps, the battery just runs down really quick. I could possibly have a faulty phone.
My iPhone 4 battery sucks… Battery life is poor and the battery is drained after relatively light use, what can I do?

If I cared, I could find some for the Galaxy S or any phone for that matter but I don't.

Apply that to any device out on the market as it all boils down to how it is used.

Exactly my point, any high end phone currently on the market will not last more than a day with heavy use.

Moderate use will get you over 24 hours though, your having a laugh if you think your getting 2 days with heavy use.

Ah no, your point was to try to take a jab at the iPhone when I said mine lasts two full days with fairly heavy use. It is funny how you took the time to search it out and individually take random people's post and quote them though.

Anyway, Golem is not looking for a high end phone, so none of this matters. [rofl]

Like your point was to make out the iPhone 4 battery life was better than other high phones when it's not.

Yeah, He should get a blackberry, they actually do have good battery life.

Sorry you read into it the wrong way and interpreted it incorrectly. Glad it is settled now.

I cannot think of any single current smartphone that displays battery life characteristics that put it head and shoulders above any other when used in the same way. You can get 3-4 hours out of even the best if you're playing intense 3D games. You can get 3-4 days if you're on standby 95% of the time. This is true of most modern smartphones.

My sister gets 2 easy days out of her Galaxy S and I get 1 out of my N8, although you'd expect it to be the other way around. That's because I use my phone for browsing, streaming music, games, e-mail, etc. She texts and makes calls.

As Mute has said, most of what's recommended in this thread is far more than Golem needs. Geeks frequently just recommend the top-end without considering a user's intent.

Biggest phone upgrade I ever made? Nokia 1100. Seriously.
Gets the job done, text/call from time to time. Battery lasts 2 weeks without a charge.

I would have to agree with Shock.

You claimed an impossible number that no smartphone can do without the use of extended batteries and you got called out on it.

The sad thing is, you are known so well for being pro-Apple, it isn't really surprising you would glorify their products beyond what they are truly capable of.

[rofl] False. Next time I have to charge my phone, I will take a screenshot of the usage screen just for you.

Impossible number, not in the slightest, I have seen many smartphones do the same when configured properly.

Being as anti-Apple as you are, it is not surprising that you are trying to kick up dust.

You do what you feel you have to do.

But I'll let you know up front that I don't accept the screenshots of Apple's useage display because it doesn't break down what the phone is used for during the phone usage time.

Impossible number, not in the slightest, I have seen many smartphones do the same when configured properly. I can do >48hours on my phone as well, that's not hard. but the key use of words you used was "heavy usage". Now granted, we have not established what is considered heavy usage, but personally, unless you are doing something that involves interacting with the phone w/ the display being on, it's not heavy usage.

Things I would consider heavy usage are things like watching a movie, playing a game, browsing the web. And if you are constantly on the phone for several hours during the phone charge, then sure, I'll count that to. But if you are streaming music in the background and the display isn't on, then I consider that light usage.

Being as anti-Apple as you are, it is not surprising that you are trying to kick up dust. At least I've been able to defend my position about why I dislike Apple.

And the dust had already been kicked up by the time I got here.
