As much as I would like to see another android based phone sold.... are you sure you really need a smartphone? Here in the states we have to pay extra per month to have a data package with any smartphone. So if you are hardly going to use any of features a smartphone offers with a decreased battery life when compared to a standard, why pay more for that?

All of that aside, I have had a Droid 1 (Milestone) for over a year now and it has been a solid phone, a little slow now, but I have it OC'd to 1.25Ghz. I really like having a physical slide out keyboard, if a keyboard is important then I would recommend the Milestone 2 if you like the size of it. It offers a faster CPU over the first one, IIRC it is 1Ghz stock.
