To me a mud slide that killed a lot of people is nothing in comparison to a flood that covers a large portion of the 2nd? largest state in Australia. The damage bill is huge and the Australian lifestyle is first world. Not to take away from the Brazil floods, but when the people are not used to 3rd world conditions it becomes very hard to cope with in comparison to 3rd world where their lifestyle isn't designed around having things like electricity and clean tap water. [rofl] Can't but laugh at that. |

[rofl] Can't but laugh at that. I know overall we will be better off. But we have different lifestyles, utilities and infrastructure. In some regards the Brazilian people would be equipped to better cope with lower living standards. It's only through our nations wealth and peoples generosity that these people will get back on their feet to what we call "normal". |

I think the quote that "the flooded area is larger than Germany and France combined" should help people really put into perspective how devastating this flood actually is.
If you count the areas in NSW and now Victoria that are affected, that area will now be much larger. I think the clean up bill for Queensland alone was extimated to be at least $8 billion so any donations people make are badly needed. |

EDIT: Of course Abbot would be pushing it already!http://www.pcworld.idg.com.au/articl...covery_abbott/ If anything QLD's water logged copper lines will be starting to corrode and short out and telecoms there will probably need a hefty investment. |
