Well, I'll be honest, I've never spent a cent on a mobile phone, I've always got one from work, and I have never been into getting the latest gadget...
Wifey's Motorola is dying though, so we need to get her another one. She was quite used to her Blackberry while she was working, and likes the QWERTY layout. As she's now busy being a mum, she doesn't need any big gimmicks and email syncing and stuff. She uses a prepaid service from talkmobile, so not interested into getting a subscription. Anything you phone gurus can recommend? |

Orange San Francisco, under £100.
600mhz CPU/512MB of RAM/running Android 2.1 (possible 2.2 upgrade depending on if the community manage to get it over), 800x480 OLED screen! I just got this phone recently and it's oustanding for the price, you really need need to root+rom it though (which isn't hard), gets rid of all the horrible Orange bloatware and has it running like a standard Android device. If she isn't interested in having internet access on the phone though then it's probably a bit of a waste to grab this unit. |

Do you want a QWERTY smartphone for her or just a featurephone? Sounds like you're looking for something cheap and basic.
The Nokia C3 is probably the cheapest physical QWERTY device on the market but S40 would be a bit of a downgrade for a Blackberry user. Not that it's bad - it can surf the web, play music, etc. but it's decidedly not smart and she won't have 3G. Still, a very nice phone that you can buy outright for a pittance. Her next cheapest physical QWERTY option would probably be the Nokia E63, which gives you S60 and 3G, plus more. |
