I have to say that personally I think a quick go over with the jet wash every month and a hoover out every so often is about all I can be bothered with. It get filthy this time of year within 5 minutes of driving, so it's pretty pointless to spend forever cleaning.

Last time I used a drive through car wash it was crap. It didn't clean any detail or indentations in the bodywork. It's hard to explain, but it didn't clean in the bits that actually get the most dirty. Seemed a waste of time.

This is the most anal car cleaning I have ever seen. Absolutely ridiculous. The guy is a penis.

I just hand wash using the usual carwash soap (not carwashers).

But every six months I use Dawn soap, clay bar, dawn soap again, then Zaino.

A clay bar is the best thing you can do to your paint!

Thats what I did until I got my own pressure washer because I got bored of driving 8 miles to get it washed. Plus, I also got bored of posing with the car in public as I washed it.

She said that just because she puts up with me doesn't mean she wants anyone to know that she does.

The guys that operate my local hand car wash do a really good job for a wash and go effort. A professional valet comes round our office every couple of weeks and does a few peoples cars but we have to pay for it ourselves and I don't see the benefit.
I'll take that as a no then, on the missus's picture front

a proper pro valet is awesome, Ive only had it done once,at a cost of £250 (was a motor club multi buy)

he did a ****ing absolutely awesome job, clayed it,sun lamped it all manner of polishes and sealants, took the seats out cleaned them with leather conditioner took out the scratches and then resealed the leather, washed the carpet, washed the head lining did under the car, back of the wheels pretty much everything.

car looked absolutely stunning, took him absolutely ages.

You really thought I'd put a picture of my bird on an internet forum full of socially inept teenagers and dysfunctional adults so that she could become part of their spank banks?

The SprayWay here is a white foam that comes from a white can. It is only $2.99 at Home Depot (less than a large coffee from Dunkin Donuts).Have you tried Sprayway? I will Paypal you a refund if you do not like it better.

Not only is it the best glass cleaner, the company is also environmentally sound (the can is made from recycled parts and the cleaner is non-toxic).
I'll check it out when my 6-bottle supply of Invisible Glass runs out. Thanks for the tip.
I meant that literally the surface contact with a sponge will remove some wax, regardless of how light of pressure you apply.
You're right, but it should be very little. Some of the synthetic waxes/sealants (like the Meguiar's TechWax 2.0 when properly applied and cured should be as hard as cheap plastic).
Basically, for someone who lives in a house and has access to a hose, the appropriate steps for paint maintenance and cleaning are:

1. Every week/two weeks max: wet the car, wash with car wash liquid (soak in foam first), rinse with water 2X, then dry. Optional, but recommended: apply polymer water-repellant (such as Meguiar's Ultimate Quick Detailer) after the car is dry.
Ever try P21S paint cleaner? That stuff is really good too. I think it's pretty much the equivalent of Meg's paint cleaner, and that's been working fine for me.
I clay bar once a year, sometimes twice... I thought I was over-doing it!
Maybe I overstated it, but if you do it right (no downward force applied, and using a clean clay bar every time), it shouldn't damage the paint.

I am forced to do it a lot, because I park my car on a NYC street, and it gets REALLY dirty really quickly. By comparison, my dad only needs to clay 2X per year at most, and needs washes and waxes 3X less, just by virtue of living in a quiet neighborhoood.

It sucks when I remember that I breathe this **** in.

Why does noboby go to the car wash? For less than a fiver I get my car hand washed while I wait. A car is a tool. Spending hours cleaning it is like spending hours cleaning your fridge.
For the same reason why I polish my shoes.

I do go to a hand car wash when I don't have time, but it gets expensive, and it's NEVER as good as when I do it myself.

I'm sure that even you understands that just because you're living on a military base it doesn't mean they pay you for every hour of the day.

no, but because of the technicality of being always on standby

I'm sure that even you understands that just because you're living on a military base it doesn't mean they pay you for every hour of the day.
you do, you get paid a base rate, per hour 24hrs a day, then you get paid extra when you go on operations, flying pay, uncomfortable working conditions, etc.

I'm duty crew this weekend, and although I haven't had any call outs I'm still getting paid for it

that's how its worked out in the military, they have to pay you round the clock otherwise, they would have to pay overtime etc [rofl]

the ****ers
