bad drills TBH !
Speaking of which, I did some glider flying at Waikerie in South Australia a few months back.

I explained to them I held a CPL in Heli's and a PPL in fixed wing and also had some experience in gliders as a 15 year old.

First instrutor was cool, she was also a powered pilot so she knew what I doing and let me fly the whole time including emergency's.

Next day I had another instructor, now I think he was out to bring me down a peg or two given I'd made the mistake of jokingly saying if I could autorotate a heli, how hard could gliding be?
He ran a emergency tow rope break at 600 feet for me. As soon as I released I said we had enough height for a 180 degree turn and downwind landing (of course we did, you know that instructors don't like pushing gliders back to the pie cart!) but before I could act he started yelling

"don't push forward, DON'T PUSH FORWARD, DON"T PUSH FROWARD!!!!"

Now our airspeed was marginal but no decaying (trimmed it pretty well) and I had no idea why I couldn't push forward? So I just kept the control where it was. He then took control, did a 180 and we landed.

Turns out he was trying to say "don't pull back", but admitted to being a little freaked by our precarious position [rolleyes] Not sure how many hours he had, but the postion was not that exciting at all given we where doing 60 knots and holding, and we had a massive aerodrome below us to land on with plenty of height.

I almost wasn't going to pay for the flight considering the tuition was ordinary, but I did learn something from it though, but it had nothing to do with tow rope breaks...

hmm interesting. he couldn't have been a BI because, they are not allowed to do any thing under 500ft (inc winch failures) instructional wise.

I think civvi glider pilots are pretty gash anyway, usually doddery old farts

[rofl] Yep that they are.

I remembered how much I hated the gliding scene.

Get to the field at 10, wait for an hour while they do god knows what (I could have done 5 emergency's by now, I don't need thermals!)

Push the gliders to the runway at 11
Push more gliders around
Push another glider around
Have a flight
Push a glider
Have a flight
it's now 4pm and we have to push all the glider's back to the hangers [cursing]

I can't even stand taxiing anymore let alone all this crap. I'm used to getting to the field, being able to prep the aircraft myself, starting up, getting into a hover and then flying away [thumbup]
