it's pretty simple. England just need to win and they're through. the draw scenarios are highly unlikely to come out in England's favor. Also, it doesn't appear to matter that much whether England win their group or not, because there is no telling who they'd play if they get 1st or 2nd. Germany could very well finish 2nd in their group, so if England win the group, they'd be matched up w/ Germany. Anyways, win and get through, and their likely opponent would be: Germany, Ghana, or Serbia.

If England get through, I think I'd rather play Germany. It might give the players a kick up the arse, and seeing as how strange this World Cup has been, I reckon we'd beat them at penalties!

Very interesting press conference from John Terry. He basically said Joe Cole and Wayne Rooney are our best players and should be starting. Also said they are having a clear the air meeting and will be airing their views whether the manager likes it or not. Finally it appears the players want Wayen Rooney on his own up front with Gerrard playing off him. This would allow Barry in the centre and Lampard to get forward with Cole on the left. Rooney has been playing that position all year, so should suit him to the ground.

Yeah. Thought it was strange Terry doing the talking, as he's not captain, but I believe everything he says.

Hopefully it helps! I would hate for England to not even make it out of groups.

Well, England does have a chance - New Zealand just drew with Italy, which some locals regard as a big deal, which I'm sure it is.
Don't know what that means in the group, though, as I don't really follow the sport - just been watching the Indy cars and am now watching the NASCAR racing!

If WE (yes, we) make it through, it will be as the winner of our group. I dont want to see us advance with a stupid draw, just because Serbia couldnt win. That would be weak.

The USA should win just so there is one more reason why the US is better than every place in Europe

Imagine - if they win, it'll be the first time they'll have won a "World Championship" that actually has another country in it apart from America!

Seriously, if they play well enough, then jolly good for them - many of the other fancied teams are failing dismally to meet expectations!

!
The reason we do that is to save the embarrassment of other countries who would want to play

Or maybe it's more akin to those situations you'd find when you were at school, you know which, there is always that one big, dumb, arrogant bully that no-one likes and no-one plays with, the one most people are too scared to actually say anything to incase he goes ballistic. Sound familiar?

I always have to chuckle a bit at the "We" part when people talk about "their" favorite team

Honestly, think about it for a second.
There is no "We".
All you´re doing is particapating in a giant marketing play, being a consumer.
Do you really think for a second one of those over payed, non productive gaytards, that run around on the field shooting around a little ball even give a squirt of piss about you, or any other fan ?
Sure as long as a camera is rolling they might, but ffs.

sry that was my Sunday morning rant.
ps. i hate soccer with a passion.

love

Sport is something that most men have in common and sociable people like to discuss it. We are perfectly aware that all they do is provide us entertainment, but it makes it more interesting if we pretend that we have a say / interest in our club. It's just a turn of phrase, I've never met anyone that actually believes that on an individual basis they are inportant to the running of their team.

Individually perhaps not, but if 20,000 stop turning up the club is somewhat ****ed. That's why 'we'.

Sorry, I thought it was a given that "I've never met anyone that actually believes that on an individual basis they are inportant to the running of their team." implied that together we are important to the running of the club.

Nah, some things America does very well, but not everything - like softball! or motor racing!
