Default Is this really news?
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/sussex/10363646.stm

What it boils down to is: child grabs animal's tail, gets bitten. And this the top story for England.

You can bet the kid grabbed the tail with more than a little enthusiasm.

But no, this is not news.

Primarily parents' at fault, supervision and training, partly the child's.
But it's the the innocent animal that'll be punished!

I think it's news because there was that case recently of a baby supposedly being attacked while she slept in a cot by a fox. This is following on the coat tails. I'd be suspicious that it was actually a cat or a stray dog rather than a fox and simply the parents are trying to get some tabloid cash for the story.

To a point i make you right here, but i think its also the underline thing about there being too many Foxes now in urban areas.
Its stuff like the council only taking waste every 2 weeks that will encourage them to venture more into our environment and multiply.
Rats now have more to feed on, Foxes now have more prey they can feed on plus the rubbish itself.

If ever you see the damage that Foxes do your no they are no cute or cuddly animal.
In no way could i justify a pack of digs ripping apart a Fox, but we do still need to cull the population and thats something that has been ignored.

Be prepared to read of many more cases of children and pets being attacked unless we bring the population under control.

People population, I trust - if we weren't invading their habitat, they wouldn't be coming into ours!

I live in the country so I'm well aware of the nature of foxes, never would consider them cute and cuddly. But generally they try to avoid people if they can, I'd be suprised if one stayed still long enough to let a kid grab it's tail.

Urban foxes are very different, they are getting much more brave.

I know there's been a lot of complaints about increased vermin since the 2 weekly collections started, but if people would recycle more of their rubbish, bin lids would be closed and stop rats etc getting into them. Where I live we are lucky that there are quite a lot of mini recycling centres for taking plastics, cans and bottles - in addition to the bins we have for paper/cardboard. Yet when you see bins out on collection day the lids are sticking up and the bins are full of recyclables. Many people are just too lazy to do anything about the problem
