Default Is this serious?
http://news.bbc.co.uk/local/essex/hi...00/8718612.stm

Seriously?

Is this really how far the society has fallen? Cause this is really the last step before you'll need to file a form to take a piss. And you might have to do that with a government employee watching and waiting to assist. Also making sure you won't touch yourself in the immoral way.

Nothing you said there has the slightest relevance to that actual story, there was a group of people that suffer from Vertigo who could use a service that helped them across the bridge, now that service has been withdrawn and they are pissed about it.

There is nothing being forced upon people, it was a special service there for people to use if they chose, so your post is a slight over-reaction. Why always so interested in the UK anyway? Perhaps you should focus on your own countries shortcomings rather than singling out the UK constantly, it's become nothing more than tiresome tbh.

Hahahaha, what a bunch of girls.

Oh no, I can't drive across a bridge without help.

That is embarrassing to admit.

That's actually a bit of a problem out here at the Tacoma Narrows bridge (you've probably seen the old videos of it falling in the water...). Or at least it was when there was only 1 bridge with 2 lanes each way.
People either scared, or just admiring the view. Whatever it might be. Driving 30-40 MPH over the bridge, causing huge backups behind them.

I didn't say they were forced.

I think you keep misinterpreting what I am saying because your patriotism compels you to do "protect" your country. But I'm not attacking the UK.

But I'm not attacking your country. I keep bringing up the concept of "personal responsibility". If you can't drive over the bridge, don't do it. I am sure there are other routes. Or you can get your fear of heights treated. With the universal healthcare system in the UK there should be no problem getting help for that.

Trust me, I find people requesting that the government wipe their ass far more atrocious than if the government forced them to accept assistance.

I'm hardly incandescent with rage at the request. People ask for a service from the government, they won't get it, the end.

These types of people shouldn't be on the road anyhow. These are the people that cause those "nervous accidents".

You know for someone who is (or is about to become) a doctor you're not very sympathetic to people's problems.

There are very limited options for crossing the Thames east of London. In fact the Dartford crossing is the only one until you reach London; avoiding it could add tens of miles to your journey.

most accidents happen on that bridge, or tunnel because of exactly the lack of assistance....

its a service that will help prevent fatal accidents and snarl ups by drivers who suffer from such phobias, who freeze in the tunnels or on the bridge and cause a massive ****ing accident...

Gnuis I though you had a degree (phd)? use your brain next time, instead of getting all snobby about something you clearly cannot fathom about some one's psychological states in life and how they cannot cope.

Nice one Dr Gnuis I wonder who your first patient you'll kill through negligents will be ?

yeah its either Blackwell tunnel or the woolwich ferry.

bungle Im sure you can vouch for this, the dartford crossing is very daunting even for experienced drivers even without phobias.. the sheer volume of traffic, the idiots gunning it from the tolls, idiots overtaking in the tunnels, massive foreign lorries smacking into the toll booths because they are too high poor quality roads just after the crossing in Essex and general poor driving skills of the local's

i think it's ridiculous, but they also have this in the US. I know the Macinaw Bridge in Michigan offers it. I saw it on History Channel Modern Marvels. apparently people regularly freeze up from vertigo or whatever. I get the impression they offer it not so much a service to people who are scared of heights, but moreso because people like that can freeze up and cause havoc with traffic.

I would never freeze up scared, but I do get a knot in my stomach crossing certain really high bridges. (like the skyline bridge in Tampa kinda freaks me out) Same thing with certain really steep mountain passes. I can drive them no problem, but I do grip the wheel pretty tight on certain occasions.

Big bridges like that scare me, but I love going over them for that very reason

I don't see how ridiculous this is....

Lot's of people will rely on that bridge/tunnel. It's not their fault they suffer from vertigo or claustrophobia.

There's no mention of how much the service cost, but I'm sure drivers uneasy about using it would happily pay £3 or so for a service like that and the HA can make some profit out of it. Even if it saves one crash a year it pays back huge dividends, especially if one could be a fataility.

Gnius is just being an elitist prick about it.

We don't have patriotism in the UK.

It's illegal.

I bet he likens him self to "house" now that hes all Ph.D'd up [rolleyes]

anyway... that bridge makes so much money per minute it could afford to offer the service free,in fact I think it was free before.

its owned by the french now so who knows if it would be free.

I have noticed though that they still escort dangerous goods vehicles through the tunnel and over the bridge so I cant see a problem with extending that service to assist nervous drivers too

I detect a hint of bitterness with a hint of fail.

Listen bud, you can disagree with me, even attack my opinions, but making several "PhD" comments in one thread just makes you sound petty.

P.S. "House" is an MD, not a PhD. It's in the title of the f-ing show.
