Am I the only one who thinks this is funny?

I mean come on, " it quickly turned into a physical confrontation ". Translation: accidental touching

I did too! My usage of "SICK!" was purely slang.

What about, hand in pocket = weapon?

Given the situation, that assumption was 100% justified, regardless of whether or not it was correct.

In NYC, aggressive panhandling is frequently used as a prelude to, or devolves into a robbery. You must, at all times, keep away from people asking for money if they approach you. If they are closer than you feel comfortable, then you're already far inside the danger zone.

Running away is acceptable. You may not think it looks brave, but it's far better to run away than to have a cut-up face.

You should never get into arguments with panhandlers. You can't win them. If a "no" does not suffice, remove yourself from the situation immediately, any way you can. In any case, never ever take out your wallet to give them money.
