Easy to remember and/or find web address and site, means of covering costs and recording same, easy member login process and FOLLOW THEM UP (applied for a couple and no acknoledgement dispite reminders - their loss), have easily interpreted forums, have links to related information and sites.
That's just some suggestions - what I'd suggest is, rather than ask here, is that you look at a variety of other sites and make a list of likes and dislikes and work fromn there. For example, FM is the only site where there seems to be a limit on (linked) image sizes which has caught me out a few times.

Actually, if you do get stuck I can probably help. We run quite a lot of loyalty and rewards schemes so I have quite a good idea of what gets people engaged in a scheme (or club).

The best trick is to make them think they are getting much better value for money than they really are. People love ANYTHING they perceive as free. I'll give you an example - at t in the park last year we took 2,000 totally shitty keyring torches. To get one you had to receive a bluetooth message from us which contained advertising. People were fighting to get them and we ran out within 6 hours. I think these things cost us about 35pence each from China and the return on investment through the advertising was about 145%.

im starting up a club at work...

I know how to set one up and whats needed to set one up successfully but here's a little Quiz/brainstorming task for you lads

what do you think you would need to set up a Motor club for users to service/repair/restore cars.

or any sort of club for that matter

A change request system and timesheets are important. Mainly just so that you know what is going on, rather than to keep tabs of people. They will also help you allocate workshop time more efficiently.
