Default [ Car related ] Feedback wanted!
Later this year we are going to have to buy a second car. (As in new primary vehicle.)

Thanks to finnish taxes the car can't be very new. Max price is ~7000€.
- We need space so it has to be Wagon/Estate/Whatever-you-guys-call-it
- Aircon is must. (yes, in Europe or at least in Finland that hasn't been standard equipment for long)

Here are something I've found:

Volvo V40 1.8 - 2.0 2000-01

Ford Focus 1.6 - 2.0 2002-04

Ford Mondeo 1.8 - 2.5 V6 2001-03

Opel Vectra 2.0 - 2.6 V6 2001-02

Alfa Romeo 156 1.8TS, 2.0JTS, 2.4mJTD 2002-04

Nissan Primera 1.8 - 2.0 2003-04

There's still many months left but the "heat" is on...

If space is what you want something like this could be a good choice:

It depends...

I tried to search from all models the model specific faults... It's a bloody bottomless pit.
Every car has it own quirks. Alfa Romeo has a bit more expensive parts though. 2003 and up models should be more reliable in the engine department. But there's still other electrical problems.

Forgot the Omega! Cheers for that.

Alfa will cost you at least twice the amount of money to run than the other choices [yes]

I have owned two Volvo S/V40s so far, and both have been good reliable cars. And I love their looks, they were the best looking sedans/station waggon in that class in their time. I didnt like the engine though (1.8i, 125BHP), it didnt have enough power to make driving fun. So IF you buy a V40, try to find a 2.0i or 2.4i machine.

They are good family cars though as they have all the most safety features in their class.

I now drive a V50 with the 2.0l Diesel engine, tune up to 160BHP, which comes pretty close to what I call "sufficient".

Edit: Oh, and try to find a model from 2002 or later, which has the facelift. They looked much better after the refit.

Have a look and see what Subaru Outbacks you can get for that money.

In the UK you can get an 05 with 3.0 / full leather / nav / ac for around 6k gbp.

In Finland I would think the AWD will come in handy when it snows?

Seconded, great cars, reliable, fun, safe and they love to be treated roughly.

It's great fun to casually drive through areas where most people won't dare to go.
