Default Acer Aspire One 12cell Batt
I just got my 12cell 10800mAh battery and im happy with it!
HUGE and HEAVY but its only 1000mAh short of advertised so i'm happy. 8 hour run time on my batt (heavy use) sounds good to me!

I have an acer aspire one with what was the bigger battery. I think it's 6 cell. It gives about 8 hours internet browsing usage.

Just curious shervin, but are you using the bog standard Ubuntu on that netbook?

Thinking of installing it on my eeepc901...

If it's a new battery, give it two or three full discharge/recharge cycles and you may get some of that back.

I also have a 12cell battery for my laptop. Yah, it's big and bulky, but I like it and wouldn't go back to a standard battery pack again. I only get about 6 hours out of mine, but that's not bad since it's not a netbook.

8 hours on an Aspire One from a 12cell seems very poor compared to what other netbooks get from 4-6 cells.

My Dell 13z for example was averaging 4-5 hours on a 4 cell battery and gets 8-10 hours from the 8cell upgrade and only sticks out 1cm extra at the back.

That's running Wireless N all the time, Win7 x64 and general browsing/movies etc.

What settings do you use for thoes results?

Max performance / screen brightness?

50% screen brightness, balanced mode (sleep after 40mins, turn screen off after 15 mins, hdd stays on all the time), the GPU (Intel x4500MHD) does all the video decoding either via Flash (10.1 beta) or via DXVA (local files).

The Dell Power manager / Extended Battery application does all that and in the BIOS the Intel power management features take care of throttling etc.

If you have a look at the advanced Windows power management settings you will see they are only timing related in general with the exception of PCIe link state management, wireless power management, CPU min/max % and Video quality modes.

The Power saving "modes" are just preset names for each sub value tree, all of which you can customise fully via advanced power management.

As for the display brightness, maybe look for a better laptop then with a better quality screen? On a WLED display like this it doesn't make much difference. I just have it 50% because I'm used to a calibrated screen @ the recommend reference luminance of 120cd/m2 on my desktop and 50% brightness on the laptop gives a suitable match to that luminance figure.

It runs flawlessly so far
It makes the Atom feel a lot faster than it really is but the HDD is still a set back, maybe in the future I will put an SSD in it. I use the netbook mostly for coding UIs for my n900 and surfing the net.

Dracon_ma: Thanks for the tip! I'll keep an eye on it.

Last night I had the netbook on while I was in bed and I fell asleep watching father ted :P I woke up hours later and the laptop was still on but down to 86% from full charge hahaha

Homebrew: It is the very first model of the acer one netbooks. Bog standard, but it had the best keyboard IMO at the time so I got it.

Terrannova: Thanks

Robbie: I don't try to save power in any way at all, full brightness, performance mode, always play internet radio in the background, flash intensive web browsing, and I used to watch a lot of netflix.

That could verywell be the difference.

When I run my aspire at performance settings, I get ~3 hours, on power saving mode, like ~5 hours. This on just the regular battery.

All the power savings modes do is adjust the visual effects and hdd sleep/monitor sleep times etc - nothing major deep down.

The 13z is a ULV notebook remember though, even though it's a Core2Duo !

Thats not true at all, they can adjust the cpu step speed(s), vga power usage, HDD spin time, ect... However, adjusting the screen down in brightness has the largest effect on longevity. Personally, I can not stand anything less than 100% brightness on netbooks/laptops. If I had to look at a 50% brightness screen all the time, I'd throw the thing out.

Yeah I'm more of a power user these days too which is one of the reasons I am looking to get the Asus UL30VT which is rated to 10 hours with the stock battery - I dislike having things sticking out - I prefer slim and sleek and the UL30 also has the GeForce discreet switchable gfx.
