For about $350, what receiver would you choose? I'm getting the Panasonic TC-P42G10 plasma TV, but I need sound since my (not so) old receiver is dead due to lightening (I guess... was on a surge protector, though).
Who makes the best ones? I must have good sound and all the connections needed for todays electronics. I'll use this receiver for both music and movies... games, etc... I don't have surround speakers yet, but at least a 5.1 would be nice for upgrades later. ________ REHAB FORUM |

Denon. ![]() It doesn't have an amp for subwoofers so you'd need an active sub rather then passive if you were planning on having one. |

Denon, Pioneer, and Onkyo are three great brands. Sony and Yamaha make good AVRs as well but they are too bright fo my taste. Denons sound amazing but they ar quite laid back and dark sounding. I somewhat recently sold my Denon because I was looking for a more detailed image, so I went with Pioneer. I am on my phone right now but if you post some receivers, I can help you narrow down the search. Almost all AVRs now have HD audio decoding and HDMI.

Yamaha, Harmon Kardon, Onkyo.
I'm running a Yamaha RX-V765 (more than you'll want to spend) with Klipsch Reference speakers and it sounds insane with movies/concerts. Read as many user reviews as you can for each receiver you are considering and try to dial in what will work best for you and the speakers you'll be using... |

Pioneer just announced some 3D-Ready, HDMI 1.4 2010 receivers in your price range. You might want to take a look at them:

I own an older Onkyo 504 and am very satisfied for the price I paid around 220$ I think. I have messed around with an older Yamaha and compared to the Onkyo the controls were awkward. A great thing about Onkyo is they are really user friendly. [edit] Or should I go with the Onkyo SR607 for $34.00 more? ________ Aromed vaporizer 4.0 |

I am leaning towards that Onkyo SR508. It's not out yet, but should be in a week or two. Amazon will let me pre order for $350 and free shipping. Hmm.... about to pull the trigger on $1100 worth of equipment here. http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=1234399 [rofl] ![]() |
